Our client is looking to appoint an Sales Engineer to support the continued growth of its Water Utilities division across the South West region.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a commercial mindset or an early-career technical sales professional to develop long-term relationships with water utility customers while delivering innovative pumping and water infrastructure solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the delivery of regional sales objectives by developing and maintaining strong relationships with water utility customers.
  • Work alongside senior sales colleagues to implement strategic account plans and identify opportunities for long-term business growth.
  • Engage with operational and maintenance teams to understand customer requirements and recommend suitable engineering solutions.
  • Conduct customer site visits to assess equipment performance and identify opportunities for system improvements or replacement solutions.
  • Provide technical advice on pumping systems and associated equipment, ensuring recommendations align with customer operational needs.
  • Assist with product demonstrations, field trials, and technical evaluations to support successful solution adoption.
  • Build trusted relationships with customers at both operational and management levels.
  • Deliver technical presentations and product guidance while providing ongoing support throughout the sales process.
  • Respond to customer enquiries, troubleshoot application issues, and coordinate with internal engineering teams where required.
  • Prepare quotations, support commercial negotiations, and contribute to achieving regional revenue targets.
  • Maintain accurate sales pipelines, customer records, and opportunity tracking through CRM systems.
  • Monitor sales performance, market trends, and competitor activity to identify new business opportunities.
  • Work closely with engineering, service, marketing, and product teams to ensure customers receive the most appropriate technical solution.
  • Share market intelligence and customer feedback to support product improvements and future business strategy.

Experience:

  • Previous experience within the UK Water Utilities sector in either a technical, engineering, or sales-based role.
  • Up to three years' experience in technical sales, account management, or application engineering is desirable.
  • Experience working with water process equipment, pumping systems, or wastewater infrastructure would be highly advantageous.
  • Good understanding of pumping technologies and their application within water and wastewater environments.
  • Familiarity with mechanical equipment, motors, and associated control systems.
  • Knowledge of water industry operations and maintenance practices.
  • Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Water Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Relevant industry experience will also be considered.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Commercially aware with the ability to identify and develop sales opportunities.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple customer accounts and priorities.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Comfortable working independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
