Inside Sales Engineer – Industrial Control & Automation

Technical Network

Location: Wolverhampton Salary: c£40-45,000 Reference: (internal ref)

About the Role

A market-leading intelligent industrial control and automation manufacturer has retained Technical Network to recruit an experienced Inside Sales Engineer to strengthen their commercial team.

This role will provide best-in-class sales support, bridging the gap between technical expertise and commercial performance. You will prepare accurate, competitive quotations for products, spares, and bespoke automation and robotics solutions, working closely with customers, internal teams, and suppliers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare technically sound, commercially viable quotations for products, spares, and bespoke industrial automation/robotics solutions
  • Liaise with customers, suppliers, and internal colleagues to gather technical and commercial requirements
  • Evaluate customer enquiries and propose the most appropriate technical and commercial solutions
  • Ensure proposals adhere to company standards, contractual agreements, and response deadlines
  • Support the full enquiry-to-order process, ensuring timely delivery for pressure control, metering, and associated equipment
  • Develop proficiency in industrial control and automation technologies
    • PLCs, motor controllers/drives, electrical control panels, HMIs, and industrial communication protocols

Requirements & Qualifications

Education & Technical Background

✔ HNC/BSc (or equivalent) in:

  • Electrical/Electronic Engineering
  • Mechatronics
  • Robotics/Automation
  • Relevant technical discipline

Experience & Skills

✔ Proven experience in a customer-facing commercial role, such as:

  • Technical sales
  • Engineering sales
  • Proposal preparation
  • Quotations management
  • Internal sales

✔ Desirable (but not mandatory):

  • Hands-on knowledge of industrial automation (robotics, PLCs, motor drives, control panels, HMIs, communication protocols)
  • Training will be provided on the company’s range of products

✔ Commercial & Interpersonal Strengths

  • Strong business acumen
  • Confident interdepartmental and customer liaising
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent proposals

✔ IT & Systems Proficiency

  • Highly proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with CRM, MRP/ERP systems
