Sales Lead – AI & Data Transformation

About the Role

Sword is a leading provider of business technology solutions within the Energy, Public and Finance Sectors, driving transformational change through proven technology, specialist teams, and domain expertise. This critical leadership role represents a pivotal moment as Sword evolves its Data, Analytics, AI & automation offerings.

The Sales Lead will shape the positioning, selling, and scaling of Sword’s AI & Data transformation services, translating strategic ambition into revenue growth. Beyond traditional sales execution, this role focuses on customer relationship-building and aligning innovative, outcome-driven solutions with client needs.

We seek a highly motivated, growth-oriented individual passionate about guiding Sword’s journey with AI and data-led transformation. The ideal candidate will thrive in an agile, dynamic environment, driving measurable impact for both organisations and clients.


Key Objectives / Outcomes

  • Develop and deliver (in collaboration with leadership) a sector-focused sales strategy to grow and diversify our customer base
  • Achieve and exceed personal and team revenue targets
  • Expand the pipeline across Energy, Financial Services, and the Public Sector
  • Position Sword as a trusted transformation partner
  • Build, lead, and develop a scalable, high-performing sales team
  • Drive predictable forecasting, strong deal qualification, and value-based selling

Core Responsibilities

Business Development & Direct Selling

  • Own a personal sales quota for new business and strategic expansion
  • Lead complex, multi-stakeholder transformation deals end-to-end
  • Build strategic relationships with senior stakeholders to establish Sword as a "trusted partner"
  • Develop and execute account-based sales plans for high-value clients
  • Shape client demand through outcome-led, value-based propositions

Sales Strategy & Growth

  • Develop and implement a sector-aligned sales strategy in collaboration with leadership
  • Identify cross-selling and upselling opportunities
  • Contribute to the evolution of digital, data, and AI service propositions
  • Translate organisational strategy into actionable sales plans

Sales Leadership & Team Development

  • Build, lead, coach, and performance-manage a sales and business development team
  • Set clear targets, expectations, and success metrics
  • Establish a collaborative, results-driven sales culture
  • Provide mentorship on complex deal strategies and enterprise sales tactics

Pre-Sales & Bid Leadership

  • Lead commercial and technical pre-sales activities alongside delivery teams
  • Influence and contribute to RFP, RFI, and tender responses
  • Ensure proposals are compelling, cost-effective, and value-driven
  • Support bid strategies, pricing models, and risk mitigation

Stakeholder & Internal Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with delivery, technical, and practice leads to shape solutions
  • Act as a bridge between customers, sales, and delivery teams
  • Represent sales leadership across the organisation

Requirements

Proven Experience & Capabilities

✔ Enterprise B2B sales or business development track record ✔ Experience selling transformation, technology consultancy, or managed services ✔ Demonstrable success in meeting/exceeding sales targets (individual and team) ✔ Strong commercial acumen with experience in complex deal structures ✔ Proven sales experience in one or more of:

  • Energy
  • Financial Services
  • Public Sector ✔ Experience leading, coaching, or managing sales/pre-sales teams ✔ Confident communicator (able to engage at all organisational levels) ✔ Outcome-led and customer-centric mindset ✔ Strategic thinker with tactical execution ability ✔ Comfortable operating in ambiguity and complex transformation environments ✔ Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and influencing skills

Desirable Experience

🔹 Background in technical delivery, pre-sales, or consulting 🔹 Experience with complex bids, framework agreements, or enterprise services 🔹 Familiarity with Microsoft Azure, data platforms, AI tools (e.g., Fabric) 🔹 Experience implementing structured sales methodologies (e.g., MEDDPICC)
