Sales Ledger Team Leader

Sales Ledger Team Leader – Bristol (Purpose-Led Organisation)

About the Role

An established, purpose-led organisation based in Bristol—renowned for excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement—seeks an experienced Sales Ledger Team Leader to lead its finance team in delivering high-quality services that benefit the people and communities it supports.


Key Responsibilities

You will report to the Finance Manager and lead the Sales Ledger function, blending operational management with continuous improvement. Core responsibilities include:

  • Leading the day-to-day operations of the Sales Ledger team
  • Managing and developing a Senior Accounts Assistant through coaching and mentorship
  • Ensuring timely and accurate raising of invoices and credit notes
  • Overseeing debt collection processes and managing aged debt proactively
  • Maintaining strong relationships with customers and internal stakeholders
  • Performing sales ledger reconciliations and resolving discrepancies
  • Supporting month-end and year-end reporting requirements
  • Producing debtor reports and performance data for senior management
  • Reviewing and improving existing financial processes, controls, and procedures
  • Supporting audit requirements and ensuring compliance with financial policies
  • Collaborating with budget holders and operational teams to enhance cash collection and billing accuracy

Requirements

Essential

  • Proven experience in a Sales Ledger Supervisor, Team Leader, or Accounts Receivable leadership role
  • In-depth knowledge of sales ledger processes, credit control, and debt management
  • Extensive experience in managing or mentoring finance team members
  • Strong organisational skills with a meticulous approach to detail
  • Ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach to process improvement
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with finance systems
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities

Desirable

  • AAT qualification or progress toward a professional accounting qualification
  • Experience in a multi-site or service-led organisation
  • Prior involvement in finance system improvements or transformation projects
