Lead a High-Performing Sales Team and Drive Sustainable Growth
Denholm Associates is delighted to be partnering with a leading UK organisation operating within the utilities and business services sector to recruit an experienced Sales Manager.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a commercially focused sales leader to take ownership of a high-performing acquisition and retention team, driving customer growth, reducing churn and delivering outstanding commercial results.
The successful candidate will combine strong leadership capabilities with a data-driven approach, creating targeted sales campaigns, developing people and building long-term customer relationships that support business growth.
The Role
Reporting into the Sales Director, you will lead a team responsible for acquiring new SME customers, retaining existing business and proactively managing customer renewal activity.
You'll use customer insight, CRM data and market intelligence to identify opportunities, shape sales campaigns and maximise revenue performance, while fostering a high-performance culture focused on continuous improvement and customer excellence.
This role offers an excellent blend of strategic leadership and hands-on sales management within a fast-paced and commercially driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach and motivate a team of outbound sales professionals.
- Create a high-performance culture focused on achieving and exceeding targets.
- Support ongoing learning, development and sales capability building.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, coaching sessions and development planning.
Customer Acquisition & Retention
- Drive new customer acquisition across the SME market.
- Lead customer retention and renewal initiatives to minimise churn.
- Develop effective customer-save strategies and engagement campaigns.
- Support key customer conversations and escalations when required.

Commercial & Campaign Management
- Analyse customer and sales data to identify opportunities and trends.
- Design and execute targeted acquisition and retention campaigns.
- Work closely with senior stakeholders to develop commercial offers and sales initiatives.
- Ensure effective management of sales pipelines and customer opportunities.
Performance & Reporting
- Monitor team performance against daily, weekly and monthly KPIs.
- Produce meaningful reporting and insight for senior management.
- Use data to continually improve campaign effectiveness and sales outcomes.
- Identify areas for operational and commercial improvement.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with service, operations and support teams to ensure a seamless customer experience.
- Share knowledge and best practice across the wider sales function.
- Support business-wide initiatives focused on growth and customer success.
About You
We're looking for an energetic and ambitious sales leader with a proven ability to build, motivate and develop successful sales teams. You will bring:
Essential Experience
- Experience managing outbound sales, customer retention or account renewal teams.
- A strong track record of delivering and exceeding sales targets.
- Proven people management and coaching experience.
- Experience operating within a fast-paced, target-driven sales environment.
Essential Skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong commercial awareness and customer focus.
- Ability to analyse data and translate insights into action.
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
- Resilience, adaptability and a solutions-focused mindset.
- Experience managing performance and driving continuous improvement.

Technical Knowledge
- CRM management experience.
- Strong Microsoft Excel capability.
- Experience using reporting tools and sales analytics platforms.
- Confidence interpreting customer and financial data.
Desirable
- Experience within utilities, telecommunications, energy, financial services or other subscription-based customer markets.
- Salesforce CRM experience.
- Exposure to customer retention, loyalty or customer-save programmes.
