Sales Manager – Customer Experience

Role Overview

Job Title: Sales Manager Department: Customer Experience Reports to: Commercial Director Direct Reports: Trade Account Executives

The Sales Manager is responsible for the overall performance, growth and strategic development of the Trade channel. This is an influential role leading, coaching and developing the Trade Account Executive team, driving revenue growth across the trade base, and ensuring a best-in-class experience for trade customers.

The incumbent will play a critical role in shaping trade strategy, translating commercial objectives into actionable plans, and ensuring consistent execution across the whole team.

Role & Responsibilities

Trade Strategy & Growth

  • Own and deliver the trade sales strategy in alignment with broader commercial goals.
  • Identify opportunities to increase revenue, margins and market share within the trade channel.
  • Develop initiatives to expand the trade customer base and enhance account lifetime value.
  • Monitor competitor activity and market trends to inform pricing strategies, propositions and promotions.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, coach and drive high performance across the Trade Account Executive team.
  • Set clear objectives, KPIs and expectations, ensuring accountability at all levels.
  • Oversee the onboarding, training and professional development of team members.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, feedback sessions and development planning.

Customer & Account Management Oversight

  • Oversee the management of key and high-value trade accounts.
  • Support escalations and complex negotiations with trade customers as needed.
  • Ensure a consistent, premium customer experience across all trade touchpoints.
  • Cultivate long-term, strategic relationships with key partners.

Performance Management & Reporting

  • Track trade sales performance against targets and KPIs.
  • Analyse data trends and risks/opportunities, driving insights for the business.
  • Provide regular reporting and business intelligence to senior stakeholders.
  • Champion continuous improvement across processes, systems and working practices.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with teams in Sales, Customer Experience, Marketing, Operations and Finance.
  • Influence the development of trade propositions, pricing frameworks and campaigns.
  • Advocate as the voice of the trade customer internally across the business.

Person Profile

  • Strong Leadership & Coaching: Proven ability to inspire and develop high-performing teams.
  • Commercial Acumen: Deep understanding of sales performance, margins, pricing and growth strategies.
  • Strategic Thinking: Translating high-level strategy into clear, actionable outcomes.
  • Stakeholder Management: Confidently influencing and collaborating across teams and leadership levels.
  • Customer Obsession: Commitment to achieving excellent customer-centric results.
  • Analytical Expertise: Experience using data to inform decision-making and optimise performance.

Required Experience

  • Proven career in a sales or trade/commercial leadership role.
  • Experience managing and developing sales/account management teams.
  • Familiarity with Ecommerce, Retail or Trade environments.
  • Experience driving sales targets, forecasting and performance reporting.
