Job Description
As Sales Manager, you'll drive new business growth across our R&D Tax Credits practice in the North East. You'll identify, develop and close opportunities with prospective clients, and build long-term relationships with finance directors, CFOs and business owners. You'll work closely with our technical R&D Tax consultants to turn leads into successful client engagements, and coach and develop junior team members as part of a growing regional team.
This is a senior, target-driven role for a proven B2B new business sales professional with an established network across the North East.
Your daily life
- Develop and execute a new business sales strategy for the R&D Tax Credits service line, in line with Ayming's growth targets.
- Generate, qualify and manage a robust pipeline of prospective clients through networking, referrals, outbound outreach and inbound leads.
- Build and maintain relationships with key decision-makers (CFOs, FDs, business owners) across target sectors.
- Lead client meetings and pitches, working closely with technical consultants to present Ayming's R&D Tax proposition clearly and credibly.
- Manage the full sales cycle from initial contact through to proposal, negotiation and contract close.
- Collaborate with marketing on campaigns, events and thought-leadership activity to support lead generation.
- Maintain accurate CRM records, forecasts and pipeline reporting for senior management.
- Develop and nurture referral relationships with accountants, intermediaries and other professional advisers.
- Keep up to date with changes in R&D tax legislation and HMRC guidance sufficient to sell the proposition credibly (technical delivery sits with the consulting team).
- Represent Ayming at industry events, conferences and networking functions across the North East, leveraging an existing regional network to open doors.
- Consistently achieve or exceed agreed new business revenue and activity targets.
- Manage, coach and develop junior sales team members, supporting their growth and performance gains against targets.

Iโm in my final year doing Economics and I donโt know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer โ it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) donโt need a masters. Letโs look at the ones youโd be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet โ that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
