Utility Sales Manager – Utility-Scale Solar PV & Energy Storage

Role Overview

The Utility Sales Manager is responsible for driving sales growth of utility-scale solar PV and energy storage projects. This role focuses on:

  • Customer development
  • Project acquisition
  • Collaboration with solution and technical teams to secure and deliver large-scale ground-mounted projects (including solar PV-only and energy storage systems).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end sales for utility-scale, ground-mounted solar PV and energy storage projects:

    • Early-stage engagement to contract signing
    • Aligning opportunities with company strategy and profitability goals
  • Customer & stakeholder management:

    • Develop and nurture relationships with key customers, EPCs, developers, and utilities
    • Act as the primary point of contact for high-value deals
  • Technical & commercial collaboration:

    • Work with Solution Managers and technical teams on:
      • Bid interpretation
      • Technical solution alignment
      • Project feasibility discussions

  • Bid & contract support:

    • Participate in bid preparation, commercial negotiations, and contract signing
    • Ensure technical and commercial alignment with winning proposals
  • Project handover & delivery:

    • Support awarded projects during pre-contract and execution phases
    • Coordinate with internal teams for smooth project transitions
  • Market intelligence & strategy:

    • Collect and analyse industry trends, competitors’ solutions, government policies, and customer needs
    • Translate insights into targeted sales strategies
  • Marketing & brand collaboration:

    • Partner with marketing teams on:
      • Market entry strategies
      • Customer engagement initiatives
      • Brand promotion
  • Sales performance & reporting:

    • Achieve assigned sales targets
    • Regularly report pipeline updates, forecasts, and market feedback to management

Requirements

Essential

✔ 3+ years of experience in utility-scale, ground-mounted solar PV (and energy storage projects) – experience with both solar PV-only and hybrid energy storage projects required ✔ Strong understanding of:

  • Inverter technologies
  • Medium-voltage systems
  • Energy storage systems
  • Ability to conduct technical discussions with customers and EPCs ✔ Familiarity with mainstream domestic and international PV and energy storage solution providers ✔ 5+ years in renewable energy sales or business development, with proven UK utility-scale project experience ✔ Strong customer-facing & negotiation skills ✔ Ability to coordinate cross-functionally between sales, technical, and internal teams ✔ Degree-level qualification (BSc or equivalent) in Engineering, Energy, or related fields – a Master’s degree is advantageous

🔹 Experience in UK government policy frameworks (e.g., CBSP, feed-in tariffs, subsidised contracts) 🔹 Track record of driving large-scale commercial implementations (5MW+ projects) 🔹 Fluency in commercial negotiations for EPC, developer, and utility contracts
