About the role: Business Development Consultant
Activate Business School has an exciting opportunity for a Business Development Consultant who is able to self-generate new leads for our training courses using various prospecting techniques. The main focus is to build a pipeline of new business prospects to secure new clients, and build productive relationships with them.
This is consultative selling, where you will be tailoring our range of bespoke training solutions, both commercial and apprenticeships, to meet the clients' needs and requirements. Working with clients nationally, this role is responsible for preparing and delivering proposals and tenders alongside the Head of Sales.
As well as building these relationships, you'll be ensuring our service standards, processes, and procedures are adhered to, and that our KPIs are being hit. With the potential for growth in this business area, you'll be identifying cross-selling opportunities so both you and the team can maximize revenue and achieve/exceed targets.
This is a hybrid role, working 40 hours per week with a base at any of our campuses, and meetings most weeks in Oxford. You will go on regular client visits, so must have access to reliable transportation.
What do you need to be successful as a Business Development Consultant at Activate Learning?
The most important attribute we're looking for is the confidence to drive your own leads, researching and contacting potential partners and building relationships with high-profile HR clients.
This role would be ideal for someone who has experience of working in a commercial training target-driven environment, ideally in solution sales or training sales B2B, that would now like to consider a more diverse approach to the sales world while maintaining a good track record in achieving excellent results.
- You will be passionate in consultative and strategic selling.
- Confident in writing successful proposals and tenders to lead to new business.
- Able to demonstrate a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
