Sample Management Technician – Elphinstone, Tranent

Title: Sample Management Technician Location: Elphinstone, Tranent Reports to: Team Lead / Supervisor, Safety Assessment (Elphinstone) ** contract: Full-time Salary: £25,352.56 per annum Closing Date: 24 July 2026

Role Summary

You’ll assist the Safety Assessment Group by performing critical sample management tasks to support non-GLP (Safeture™) studies. Your work contributes directly to ensuring data integrity in clinical research projects, helping advance new life-saving drug therapies.


Responsibilities

Core Sample Management Tasks

  • Barcode labelling and track entry of samples received from clinical studies via the LIMS system (Laboratory Information Management System).
  • Resolve discrepancies in sample receipt, notification of Laboratories where required.
  • Manage sample receiving and sample distribution within controlled environments.

Support Function

  • Assist with technical laboratory activities (e.g., data collection, interpretation of raw data) supporting procedures like endotoxin detection and sample identification (Microbial Solutions services).
  • Comply with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and laboratory protocols, including documenting steps for phased audit compliance.

Requirements

Education & Qualifications

  • Essential:
    • National 5 or GCSE-equivalent laboratory-based science qualifications.
    • Or equivalent study experience demonstrating ability to follow detailed lab procedures.
  • Preferred:
    • Gateway into laboratory environments (e.g., Science Highers, A Levels).

Skills & Inclinations

  • Prioritise attention to detail—small oversights can impact data integrity.
  • Excellent analytical mindset: interpret raw data and follow structured procedures.
  • Strong written communication for documentation.
  • Self-motivation and eagerness to learn new systems/processes.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in support of fast-paced study timelines.

Technical Competencies

  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word/Excel (including formatting, spreadsheets, and data logging).
  • Familiarity with GLP principles is beneficial but not mandatory.
