Sampling Technician - Coventry
The Role
ALS is seeking a Sampling Technician, based in Coventry, to carry out environmental monitoring and sampling across the UK for both commercial and key account clients, in line with company procedures and ISO17025 accreditation. Our clients range from one off jobs to long-term contracts requiring regular site visits. This role plays a key part in ensuring we meet client expectations with the right expertise and resource.
The position involves extensive driving using a temperature-controlled van to various sampling locations, from private homes to landfill sites, so you must be prepared to work outdoors in all weather. After sampling, specimens must be delivered to our Coventry laboratory, either directly or via courier drop-off points. There is also a requirement for weekend on call cover for drinking water sampling on a standby rota, paid in addition to the base salary.

The Day to Day
Key accountabilities will include:
- Undertaking sampling of – ground waters surface waters trade effluent waste water potable waters gas legionella dust
- Carrying out on-site field-testing using calibrated scientific equipment
- Accurate recording and reporting field data in line with ALS quality procedures.
- Ensuring ALS and client Health and Safety requirements, procedures and policies are adhered to.
- Transportation of samples in line with clearly defined temperature control requirements.
- Driving long distances in a safe, legal manner at all times whilst on the Public Highway
- Adhering to all on site requirements when at customer sites.
- Being the “public face” for ALS and liaising with clients and on site contacts in a polite and professional manner.
- Ad hoc duties as required to ensure that the business directives are met.

The Essentials
- Highly organised and self-motivated, with strong attention to detail
- Able to work independently and follow procedures
- Physically fit and comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Good communication skills
- Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Full, clean UK driving licence
- Willing to travel across the UK, with occasional overnight stays
- Experience in environmental monitoring is desirable but not essential
- Familiarity with Health & Safety and Quality Management System guidelines preferred
