Sanctions Technician
LOCATION: Remote (UK-based) with flexible working and the opportunity for hybrid working from Chatham
TYPE: Permanent, Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
Velonetic represents the joint ventures between DXC Technology, the International Underwriting Association (IUA), and Lloyd’s of London. Previously operating as the London Market Joint Ventures, we have been active for over 20 years in the London insurance and reinsurance markets—processing over £101 billion in premium and claims transactions today. We are now building a next-generation digital platform to help our customers process transactions and payments more efficiently, freeing them to focus on innovation and high-value activities.
About the Role
We are seeking a Sanctions Technician to support compliance with US, EU, and UK sanctions regulations. Reporting to the Sanctions Team Leader, this role will form a key part of the Control, Quality, Learning & Development, and Sanctions function.
The Sanctions Function (Structure Overview)
The wider sanctions team consists of:
- Screening Team – ’Level 1’ data entry and basic sanctions clearance
- Clearing Team – ’Level 1-2’ sanctions clearance
- Sanctions Team – ’Level 2’ sanctions clearance and specialised sanctions activities
- Compliance Team – ’Level 3’ sanctions clearance
As a Sanctions Technician, your role includes:
- Performing low-complexity Level 2 sanctions clearance
- Escalating complex cases to Advanced/Senior Sanctions Technicians
- Supporting operating units and stakeholders while acting as an expert in sanctions matters
This role is critical for ensuring compliance, demonstrating in-depth expertise in sanctions processes—both technically and across the wider insurance market—while interfacing with internal and external organisations.
Responsibilities
Core Accountabilities
- Maintain Sanctions Quality Control
- Conduct daily audits of:
- Same-day sensitive territory cases
- Next-day high-risk territory cases
- Perform sanctions checks on currency and banks in high-risk regions
- Manage and update the Sanctions User Group SharePoint site
- Escalate and resolve sanctions-related queries via market consultations
- Apply technical knowledge of sanctions and insurance processes
- Support sanctions compliance improvements within the business
- Act as a brand ambassador for Velonetic, championing company values and collaboration
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, embracing change and innovation
- Present findings and conclusions clearly, logically, and effectively
- Listen actively, take considered responses, and promote teamwork and collaboration

Daily Operational Tasks
- Ensure accurate and timely communication on work status and updates
- Work independently and cooperatively across multiple teams
- Organise workload to meet deadlines while remaining flexible
- Plan efficiently, balancing urgency and workload
- Follow up on commitments and take personal responsibility
- Collaborate on problem-solving and conflict resolution within the team
Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong numeracy, literacy, and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Outlook and Microsoft Office
- High attention to detail and accuracy—able to work methodically
- Excellent time and organisational management
- Experience working both independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable interacting across all organisational levels
- Some awareness of sanctions regulations is advisable
- Exposure to technical insurance processes (e.g., digital risk management)
- Analysis and problem-solving skills
- Familiarity with IMR & Global Radar systems
- Understanding of the importance of accurate sanctions screening
- Commitment to personal accountability, delivering great customer service
- Confident, positive, and open to change and innovation
- Ability to analyse data, form conclusions, and put information into context
- Decision-making skills—balancing different sources to determine the best path
- Clear written communication and presentation skills
- Strong ability to build positive working relationships
- Willingness to contribute to and support team decisions
