Application Architect - Interim (6 months) - Remote - UK Based

About the Role
This critical project requires defining the current application architecture and then designing the end-to-end application architecture for an M&A programme with an additional carve-out across multiple companies.
Key features:
- Companies have varying ERPs, primarily Dynamics and SAP, alongside other applications.
- The end organisation is Microsoft-focused, leveraging the Dynamics platform.
- Phased approach required for the application strategy and roadmap.
Key Responsibilities
Application Architecture & Design
- Define the current application architecture
- Design the end-to-end application landscape, including:
- Core systems ([D365, AX2012, SAP, legacy applications])
- Supporting applications ([integration, reporting, middleware])
- Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards and application strategy/roadmap

Solution Design & Roadmap
- Collaborate with PMs, business stakeholders, and SMEs to understand requirements
- Convert requirements into practical solution designs, proposing a phased approach/roadmap
- Produce:
- High-Level Design (HLD), including application landscape, integrations, and flows
- Low-Level Design (LLD) focusing on detailed configurations and logic
- Defined application boundaries and functional responsibilities per system
Integration & API Design
- Design application integration architecture, with a focus on:
- ERP ↔ ERP ([D365 ↔ ERP, AX2012, SAP, etc])
- ERP ↔ external tools ([logistics, finance, rental tools])
- Integration patterns ([API, EDI, batch, messaging])
- Define error handling & monitoring approaches

Business Process Alignment & Governance
- Define end-to-end business processes (Order-to-Cash, Manufacturing, Finance, etc.)
- Drive decisions on which system owns which process and define standard vs. customisation requirements.
- Serve as the design authority, reviewing internal and supplier solutions.
- Ensure adherence to Microsoft-first principles, reuse, simplicity, and avoid over-engineering/non-standard solutions.
- Ensure applications meet security and compliance requirements (GDPR, regulatory).
Delivery & Governance Support
- Support the delivery lifecycle, providing technical input into RAID (Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies).
- Assist with planning and governance.
- Contribute to testing, validation, and acceptance of systems.
Interim assignment with focus on SAP & Microsoft Dynamics experience.
