SAP EWM + ECC Logistics (MM & SD) – Bespoke (HBSM)

Our client, a leading multinational information technology services and consulting company, seeks a senior SAP Logistics Consultant with deep expertise in SAP EWM and ECC MM/SD to support their bespoke Trading Partner/HBSM-style solution in the UK.

About the Role

This role spans solution design, complex integrations, regression-safe enhancements, and steady-state support within a regulated environment. The consultant will collaborate with Business As Usual (BAU) and specialist (Fusion/Platform) teams to address new requirements, audit/compliance needs, cutovers, and rollouts.

Additionally, you will act as a subject matter expert (SME) for bespoke trading partner/hybrid business scenario management (HBSM) flows, as well as ensuring alignment with broader integration and technical coordination efforts.


Key Responsibilities

SAP EWM (S/4HANA) – Warehouse Operations

  • Configure and support:
    • Inbound/outbound, putaway/picking, replenishment, wave/warehouse order creation
    • HU (Handling Units) management, physical inventory processes
  • Set up and optimize warehouse structure:
    • Storage types/securities, bins, WOCR (warehouse order collections), activity areas
    • RF (RFID) processes
  • Integrate EWM with ECC MM/SD for:
    • Deliveries, warehouse management (WM), inventory management (IM)
    • Batch/serial management, quality management (QM) if in scope
  • Analyze performance tuning, issue handling (SMQ2/SMQ1), and integration/exception error codes.

ECC Logistics – MM (Materials Management) & SD (Sales & Distribution)

  • MM Responsibilities ( Procure-to-Pay / Inventory Management ):
    • Procurement processes (RFQs, purchasing orders)
    • Stock transports (STOs), goods receipt (GR), goods issue (GI)
    • Movement types, valuation, account determination
    • Batch/serial management, special stocks
  • SD Responsibilities ( Order-to-Cash ):
    • Sales order processing
    • Availability-to-Promise (ATP), delivery scheduling
    • PGI (Post Goods Issue), billing/invoice generation
    • Condition techniques (pricing procedures)
  • Master Data Stewardship:
    • Control of material/customer/vendor master data
    • Information records, source lists, output/partner profiles

Bespoke Solution (HBSM & Trading Partner Customization)

  • Understand and enhance non-standard Trading Partner/HBSM flows, complex routing rules, and custom integrations.
  • Analyze audit/compliance-related change requests and design guardrail-friendly solutions.
  • Lead knowledge transfer to BAU, regression planning, documentation, and handover.

Integration & Technical Coordination

  • Work with integration protocols:
    • IDocs, qRFC, REST/SOAP APIs, CPI/PO interfaces
    • 3PL/carrier/traffic management (TM) API integrations
  • Create high-quality Functional Specifications (FSDs) & mapping specs.
  • Collaborate with ABAP teams to implement (RICEFW framework):
    • Reportrocytes, interfaces,enchancements, and workflows
  • Lead Solution Integration Testing (SIT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), cutover/rehearsals, and hypercare.

Defect & Process Ownership

  • Drive defect triage, root-cause analysis, and permanent fixes with measurable Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

Governance, Compliance & Quality

  • Ensure adherence to:
    • GxP (Good Practice Guidance)/SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) standards
    • Regulatory audits (traceability, change control, evidence-based documentation)
  • Maintain:
    • Configuration workbooks, process maps, test scripts, SOPs, and support packs
  • Proactively adapt to legal/fiscal or policy changes affecting logistics and invoicing flows.

Required Skills

✅ Minimum 7–12 years of experience in SAP Logistics, specifically:

  • Hands-on expertise in SAP EWM (S/4HANA)
  • Deep experience with ECC (Material Management - MM) and Sales & Distribution (SD)

✅ Bespoke/custom solution domain knowledge for non-standard, multi-system landscapes

✅ Strong expertise in MM-SD-EWM integrations, including:

  • Enhanced (H/WM) and **(IM) and consistency management
  • HU (Handling Unit) management, batch/serials, quality control (QM) setups

✅ Proficiency with:

  • IDocs, qRFC, error handling & function modules
  • CPI/PO tooling, and functional-level ABAP debugging

✅ Testing certification (SIT/UAT/regression), cutover, hypercare, and BAU support

✅ Strong communication, stakeholder and vendor management, and technical documentation skills


Preferred Skills

🔹 Experience in highly regulated industries (e.g., pharma, life sciences, industrial) and global rollout projects

🔹 Knowledge of:

  • SAP TM (Traffic Management)
  • 3PL (Third Party Logistics) integrations, carrier label, Advanced Shipping Notices (ASN), GS1, and SSCC (Serial Shipping Container Codes)

🔹 Familiarity with:

  • Advanced ATP (Availability-to-Promise), S/4HANA conversion, performance tuning

🔹 Exposure to Agile delivery frameworks (Scrum/SAFe)**

🔹 DevOps and service excellence (ITIL v3, v4 best practices)
