Principal Consultant – SAP Finance & AI Delivery (Finance Technology)
Location: London, UK
Client preference for candidates able to work from the London office, working closely alongside stakeholders — Hybrid, 3 days onsite per week.
Contract Details: 12-month contract | Inside IR35 | £600–£700/day
About the Role
Our client, a leading UK telecommunications company, is looking for a senior SAP Finance and AI delivery professional to help shape and deliver the future of Finance Technology. This role bridges SAP architecture, Finance process expertise, AI delivery, vendor management, and senior stakeholder engagement — turning strategy into funded business cases, governed pilots, and successful live delivery across SAP and enterprise technology.
You'll help mobilise a focused programme team quickly, moving AI use cases from discovery through pilot, go-live, and scale, while owning a multi-year SAP Finance technology roadmap built on a clean-core, AI-enabled S/4HANA landscape.
What You'll Deliver
- Own and maintain a multi-year SAP Finance technology roadmap across S/4HANA Finance and connected platforms
- Drive the client's move toward a clean-core, AI-enabled SAP Finance landscape using SAP-native capabilities
- Shape and justify investment opportunities through clear business cases, benefit assumptions, and delivery plans
- Lead Finance AI initiatives from idea to pilot to scale, proving value before wider rollout
- Manage the AI/Finance technology delivery pipeline — prioritising demand, sequencing work, tracking dependencies (RAID), and providing executive-level governance reporting
- Improve SAP Finance service quality by reducing recurring incidents and strengthening problem management
- Set design, documentation, and technical standards for reusable, non-siloed knowledge
- Partner confidently with senior Finance leaders, Digital teams, SAP, and third-party vendors

- AI & Automation in Finance: SAP Joule, SAP BTP, SAP AI, automation, analytics, Finance data products; translating AI opportunities into practical use cases, pilots, and controls
- Business Case & Commercial Thinking: Investment proposals with cost, benefit, risk, and delivery assumptions; licence optimisation and platform consolidation
- Stakeholder & Vendor Leadership: Confident, jargon-free communication with senior Finance, Digital, SAP, and SI/support partners

Must-Have Experience
- Principal Consultant, Solution Architect, or equivalent senior delivery experience in SAP Finance transformation
- Deep SAP S/4HANA Finance experience with strong Finance process and enterprise integration knowledge
- Practical understanding of SAP BTP, SAP AI, Joule, embedded analytics, automation, and Finance data strategy
- Proven track record building roadmaps, business cases, governance packs, and delivery plans for senior stakeholders
- Experience improving live SAP Finance service performance through structured problem management
- Strong communication skills across client, vendor, SAP, and Finance leadership groups
Good to Have
- SAP Signavio, process mining, or Finance process redesign experience
- Exposure to SAP Business Data Cloud, Central Finance, SAP Analytics Cloud, or intelligent automation
- Experience with enterprise AI governance, responsible AI, or human-in-the-loop design
- Agile or SAFe delivery environment experience
