The Role
As an SAP Project Systems (PS) Functional Consultant you will be responsible for designing, configuring, solutioning and optimizing project-based processes related to “Sell & Plan”, “Setup & Staff”, “Manage & record” and “Bill & Close” covering project planning, costing, pricing, resource management, time management, billing, and project financials.
Key responsibilities

Business Requirement Gathering & Solution Design
- Work with business stakeholders (Project Managers, Finance, Resource Managers, Billing teams) to understand professional services project flows.
- Analyze requirements related to:
- Work breakdown structures (WBS)
- Pricing and Costing of projects
- Resource planning & staffing
- Time & Expense capture
- Billing methods (T&M, Fixed Price, Periodic)
- Contract & engagement management
- Create Functional Specifications, Process Maps, and Fit-Gap Analysis.

SAP PS Configuration & Customization
- Configure SAP PS master data, Project Definitions, WBS Elements, Settlement Rules, Cost Planning Profiles, Budget Profiles etc.
- Set up Professional Services billing scenarios (as applicable): Time & Material, Fixed Price Billing Plans, Resource-related billing (RRB), Milestone Billing etc.
- Integrate PS with: MS Dynamics (Opportunity, Engagement Management), SD (contracts, billing), FI/CO (cost posting, settlements), HR/SuccessFactors (time writing, resource assignment)

Project Planning & Execution Processes
- Support creation of project structures for Client engagements.
- Configure planning profiles for (as applicable) - Cost planning, Revenue planning, Budgeting & availability control
- Enable project scheduling, cost tracking, progress analysis, and forecasting.
- Ensure all activities can be executed seamlessly during project lifecycle.

Time, Expense & Resource Management
- Integrate PS with Replicon (for Timesheet entry), Concur (Expense recording), ProFinda (Resource assignment).
- Map business rules (as applicable): Billable vs non-billable hours, Utilization calculations, Overtime rules
- Ensure correct flow of time & expense data into PS → CO → Billing.

Revenue Recognition & Billing Scenarios
- Configure revenue recognition for professional services: Percentage of completion (POC), Time-based revenue recognition, Period-end revenue adjustments.
- Design and enhance RRB for (as applicable): Billing requests, Credit memos, Cost-based billing
- Work with finance teams for: Month-end close, Project financial reconciliations, Revenue deferrals/accruals

Integration with Financials (FI/CO)
- Ensure project costs flow correctly to controlling objects.
- Configure settlement profiles (as applicable): WBS → COPA, WBS → G/L Accounts, WBS → Fixed Assets
- Support project profitability reporting, variance analysis, and budgeting.

Reporting & Analytics
- Develop or support:
- Standard PS reports (budget vs actuals, cost analysis)
- Project profitability analysis (P&L by project)
- Resource utilization dashboards
- Work with reporting / MI CoE teams for custom reports.
- Develop or support:

Testing, Training & Documentation
- Create test scenarios and sample test data for functional testing.
- Work closely with QA teams.
- Conduct training workshops for project managers, accountants, and resource planners.
- Liaise with Change Management team for user guides, and training decks.

Support & Continuous Improvement
- Provide L2/L3 support for PS-related incidents.
- Optimize project billing cycles and project cost flows.
- Identify automation opportunities for project creation, staffing, or approval flows.

Cross-Functional & Client-Facing Responsibilities
- Work as a liaison between business, development, and cross-modular teams.
- Conduct Client demos for project lifecycle scenarios.
- Translate functional needs into technical specifications for ABAP development.
- Drive system improvements for project delivery excellence.
Your Profile
Essential skills/knowledge/experience
- Strong understanding of SAP Profession Service (PS) module in S4/HANA public cloud with Professional Service background.
- Experience in S/4HANA Professional Services / SAP Commercial Project Management (CPM).
- Knowledge of integration and extensibility technologies of PS with SD, CRM, CPM/(E)PPM, Time Management, Controlling.
- Ability to create functional specs, test scenarios.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and support project deadlines.
- Proactive and customer focused mindset.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

Desirable skills/knowledge/experience
- SAP PS certification (optional but desirable).
- Good years of experience as an SAP PS Functional Consultant (Professional Services preferred).
