SAP Supply Chain Solution Architect

Purpose of the Role

The SAP Supply Chain Solution Architect is responsible for shaping, designing, and governing end-to-end SAP supply chain solutions across planning, procurement, logistics, and integrated manufacturing and quality processes. The role ensures McLaren’s SAP landscape supports performance, standardisation, agility, and the S/4HANA transformation.

The function requires deep expertise in SAP ECC6 and S/4HANA supply chain, with the ability to translate business requirements into integrated, scalable, and supportable solutions aligned to SAP best practice, clean core principles, and McLean’s enterprise standards.

Scope of the Role

Core Platforms: SAP ECC6, SAP S/4HANA, SAP Ariba, SAP Fiori, SAP BTP, and relevant integration capabilities.

Supply Chain Domains: Plan, Source, Make, Deliver, including:

  • Planning
  • Procurement
  • Inventory management
  • Logistics
  • Quality
  • Master data
  • Integration with Finance, Manufacturing, Sales, PLM, and MES

Collaboration: Business process owners, operational teams, delivery teams, data and integration teams, AMS providers, and systems integrators.


Principal Accountabilities

Solution Design & Architecture

  • Partner with supply chain, manufacturing, procurement, logistics, and quality leaders to understand objectives, pain points, and process requirements.
  • Design end-to-end SAP supply chain solutions across:
    • Planning
    • Procurement
    • Inventory
    • Logistics
    • Manufacturing, quality, and finance touchpoints
  • Promote fit-to-standard and clean core principles, leveraging SAP best practices, standard processes, and SAP Fiori capabilities.
  • Develop solution blueprints, process designs, integration patterns, data flows, configuration principles, and functional specifications.
  • Ensure designs address master data, reporting, security, controls, performance, and supportability upfront.

Migration & Modernisation

  • Assess the ECC6 supply chain landscape and define the S/4HANA migration approach, including:
    • Readiness evaluation
    • Simplification items
    • Standardisation
    • Custom code, integration, and data impacts
  • Provide guidance on S/4HANA supply chain capabilities, such as:
    • Embedded analytics
    • Fiori UX
    • MRP enhancement
    • Inventory optimisation
    • Logistics and manufacturing integration
    • Automation opportunities
  • Support transformation roadmaps balancing business value, operational risk, technical debt reduction, and adoption readiness.

Governance & Standards

  • Ensure SAP supply chain solutions adhere to architecture, security, compliance, controls, performance, and supportability standards.
  • Participate in design authorities and contribute to SAP governance, including:
    • Design principles
    • Decision records
    • Exception management
  • Maintain design consistency across projects, enhancements, and AMS delivery, protecting the long-term SAP roadmap.

Delivery & Quality Assurance

  • Translate business and functional requirements into solution designs, specifications, and technical inputs for internal teams, SIs, and offshore delivery teams.
  • Review and validate functional and technical deliverables against:
    • Architecture principles
    • Business requirements
    • Controls
    • Support needs
  • Support the full build, test, cutover, and hypercare transitions, including:
    • Integration testing
    • UAT
    • Defect triage
    • Deployment readiness
    • Transition to support
  • Provide architectural direction to:
    • Functional consultants
    • Developers
    • Data specialists
    • AMS providers for quality delivery.

Stakeholder Engagement & Advisory

  • Act as a trusted advisor to both business and IT stakeholders on:
    • SAP supply chain capabilities
    • Standard process adoption
    • Pragmatic solution options
  • Deliver thought leadership on:
    • SAP roadmap
    • Process optimisation
    • Automation
    • Embedded analytics
    • AI-enabled supply chain opportunities
  • Communicate complex SAP concepts clearly, helping stakeholders understand:
    • Trade-offs
    • Risks
    • Benefits
    • Change impacts.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Extensive experience as an SAP Supply Chain Solution Architect (or equivalent SAP Logistics Architect/Lead Consultant) in complex enterprise environments.
  • Deep knowledge of SAP supply chain processes, including:
    • Procurement
    • Materials Management
    • Inventory/Logistics
    • Integration with Finance, Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, PLM, and MES
  • Strong expertise in:
    • SAP ECC6 and S/4HANA supply chain capabilities
    • Fit-to-standard design design
    • SAP best practices and best practices
    • Simplification impacts
    • Clean core principles
  • Proven ability to:
    • Design and govern complex SAP solutions
    • Produce process designs, blueprints
    • Functional specifications
    • Configuration guidance and technical documentation
  • Hands-on experience working with:
    • AMS providers
    • Systems integrators
    • Offshore teams
    • Providing design direction and quality assurance
  • Exceptional stakeholder management, facilitation, and communication skills, including the ability to influence senior business/IT stakeholders.

  • SAP S/4HANA certification or hands-on experience in:
    • S/4HANA transformation projects (greenfield, brownfield, selective)
  • Knowledge/experience with:
    • EWM (Extended Warehouse Management)

  • Familiarity with SAP delivery methodologies, including:
