Scada/OT Control System Engineer
SCADA/OT Engineer – UK Generation Portfolio
Location: UK East Coast Hub (part of the UK Generation Portfolio)
About the Role
Join our team as a SCADA/OT Engineer, where you’ll provide first-line technical support, troubleshooting, and system improvements across the UK Generation Portfolio. Reporting directly to the Head of Electrical and Control Systems, you’ll contribute to developing and enhancing the SCADA/OT engineering portfolio, ensuring operational reliability and continuous improvement of critical generation assets.
As part of Orsted’s Generation Europe, you’ll collaborate closely with engineering teams, site operations, and global support to support end-to-end system health, compliance, and security.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide first-line response and technical solutions to SCADA/OT events in the UK Generation Portfolio.
- Lead end-to-end decision-making on technical issues, escalating where appropriate to internal/external stakeholders.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all SCADA/OT events, monitoring and ensuring system health, availability, and compliance, including WTG and SCS systems.
- Oversee IT/OT security standards compliance, ensuring cybersecurity best practices are implemented in SCADA systems to meet country-specific and global company requirements.
- Effectively manage system design, upgrades, and improvements through hardware/software implementation, enhancing performance across generation assets.
- Maintain strong stakeholder alignment, ensuring smooth interface with internal and external partners for uninterrupted control and monitoring of electrical components.

What You’ll Bring
- A degree in Engineering (Control Systems, Automation, or a related field), or equivalent experience.
- Availability to travel to multiple sites for planned and unplanned events.
- Strong technical communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to build, sustain, and develop professional relationships.
- Understanding of monitoring technical changes to protect asset integrity, safety, and compliance, while improving existing processes where necessary.
Required Technical Expertise
- Deep knowledge of SCADA protocols including:
- IEC 61850
- IEC 60870-5 (101, 103, 104)
- Modbus & TCP/IP
- OPC (OLE for Process Control, DDE)
- SNMP – SNTP
- Profinet, DLMS
- Experience with OT/IT hardware:
- Remote Terminal Units (RTUs)
- Energy Meters
- Protection relays & Bay controllers
- SCADA Gateways
- Protocol Converters
- Familiarity with GPS time servers
- Windows Server administration, VMware ESXi, server hardening, maintenance, and backup strategies.
