The Opportunity We are partnering with a tier-one global investment bank in London to expand their foundational Global Technology Architecture & Strategy division. The EMEA engineering group is executing a global, multi-year rollout of high-performance reference data technologies that underpin the entire Global Banking and Markets business. This is a deep-tech engineering challenge that involves building highly interconnected metadata layers, navigating major regulatory frameworks, and scaling massive enterprise-wide datasets.
Role Overview As a Scala Developer, you will drive the design and delivery of critical, low-latency reference data stacks. Your mission is to translate complex technical and regulatory requirements into stable, highly scalable distributed components that serve cross-functional global squads.
Key Responsibilities Core Platform Evolution: Architect and develop robust backend components to support the firm’s global market data architecture Lifecycle Delivery: Take ownership of the full software engineering lifecycle from requirement analysis and architectural design to deployment Technical Modernisation: Collaborate on scaling data layer solutions using Agile methodologies and advanced big data patterns

Required Technical Expertise JVM/Scala Mastery: Strong production-level development experience in Scala (preferred) or deep Core Java mastery with a solid foundation in functional programming concepts Test-Driven Development: Deep commitment to engineering rigor through Test-Driven Development (TDD) practices and automated unit testing Data Layer Engineering: Practical competency in SQL programming and relational database management systems (RDBMS) Engineering Rigor: Strong grasp of enterprise software design patterns and automated build/release management tools High-Scale Context: Experience working within highly structured, complex distributed environments (Financial Services background preferred, though elite engineers from high-volume adjacent sectors like Telecom or AdTech transfer perfectly)

Desirable Edge Skills Hands-on exposure to Graph Data/Semantic Web technologies (RDF, SPARQL) Familiarity with enterprise Big Data frameworks (e.g., Apache Hadoop ecosystem) Prior domain insight into financial Reference Data structures (Client, Product, or Instrument data)
The mthree Model This position operates under the mthree Expert programme on a 4-day onsite hybrid schedule in London. Rather than a typical contract or multi-client consulting assignment, you are a permanent, salaried mthree consultant deployed exclusively to this single financial services client. You will receive an expert-level package, dedicated professional support, and a transparent, contractually defined pathway to convert directly to the client's internal permanent headcount.
