Senior Scala Developer
£415 per day, Inside IR35
Initial 3-month contract
London, fortnightly onsite
BPSS clearance required
We are looking for an experienced Senior Scala Developer to support a key UK government digital programme.
This role is suited to a senior-level Scala Developer who can contribute strong hands-on engineering expertise, work effectively within an established agile delivery team, and help set high technical standards across development activity.
You will need to have previous experience working within a UK government organisation, as this is essential for the role. You should be comfortable working in complex public sector environments, communicating clearly with stakeholders, and contributing to high-quality, well-tested software delivery.

Key responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain Scala-based services, working closely with delivery, product, architecture, and engineering colleagues.
- Contribute to technical decisions, support best practice engineering standards, and help ensure solutions are robust, maintainable, and fit for purpose.
- Support code reviews, technical discussions, and mentoring where required, helping the wider team maintain strong delivery standards.
Essential skills and experience
- Strong Scala development experience
- Senior-level software engineering experience
- Strong TDD experience
- Previous experience working in a UK government organisation
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong stakeholder management experience
- Ability to set standards and lead others when required
- Experience working in agile delivery teams
- Ability to interview and start at short notice
