About the Role
As part of Temple University’s Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry, the Scheduling/Billing Administrator plays a critical role in supporting patient care, operational efficiency, and financial management of our clinical services in Tamaqua, PA. The Kornberg School, founded in 1863 and proudly celebrating its 160th anniversary, is dedicated to innovation in dental education, research, and community service. As one of the second-oldest dental schools in the U.S. and a leader in oral health education, we foster ethical professionals who advance the field through collaborative learning, advanced technology, and patient-centric care.
Hourly Compensation:
$23.74 per hour ($25.67 after 90-day probationary period). Note: Salary may vary based on factors such as job duties, skills, experience, and departmental budget.
Responsibilities
The Scheduler/Biller oversees a comprehensive range of administrative, communication, and billing duties to ensure seamless clinic operations and exceptional patient service.
Core Duties

Appointment Scheduling & Front Desk Operations:
- Schedule patient and faculty appointments using our Clinical Management System.
- Greet and screen visitors; check-in/check-out patients.
- Answer phone calls, respond to voicemails, and relay messages promptly.
- Confirm appointments and pull charts prior to visits.
- Prepare new patient charts, verify accuracy, and maintain existing patient records. Locate misplaced/lost files.

Insurance & Billing Management:
- Verify insurance coverage with patients and students.
- Process manual and electronic billing, insurance claims, and Explanation of Benefits (EOB).
- Post payments, reconcile denied/pending claims, and resubmit claims with necessary documentation.
- Resolve claims discrepancies and ensure patient accounts are updated.

Financial & Administrative Tasks:
- Prepare pre-authorizations, submit and track claim submissions.
- Process credit/debit payments and prepare daily deposits.
- Compile financial reports, generate worksheets, and forward financial data to relevant departments.
- Maintain waiting area organization, including seating arrangements and educational materials.

Compliance & Customer Service:
- Adhere to school policies, provide guidance to administration, and represent clinic operations as needed.
- Offer information support to patients/students on appointment details.
- Act as a liaison between patients, staff, faculty, and third-party insurance providers.

Flexibility & Cross-Training:
- Be prepared to assist in other administrative departments as required. -Handle emergency and non-routine paperwork with accuracy.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- A minimum of 3 years of related experience in a dental or medical setting, with patient interaction.
- Preferred but not required:
- Familiarity with dental billing systems (e.g., ClaimStar, DS Logic, Eaglesoft).
- Knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid, private insurance, and third-party claim processes.
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent communication skills—verbal and written—for diverse populations (students, faculty, patients, insurance representatives).
- Thorough understanding of medical/dental billing terminology and procedures.
- Strong multitasking, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and make sound judgment calls.
- Cross-functional adaptability—comfort filling in across the Dental School’s administrative and clinical teams.
- Must be able to travel between Philadelphia and Tamaqua as needed.
