Scheme Support Officer

Part-Time (18.5hr) Permanent Scheme Support Officer

Location: Ty Trosiad, Newport Contract: Permanent (rolling rota with days, evenings, weekends, and sleep-in shifts required) ** Additional sleep-in payment of £62.64 | Lone working sometimes involved**

About the Role: Ty Trosiad

A supported housing service with 10 bed spaces, assisting people with:

  • Long-term, complex needs
  • Mental health issues
  • Substance misuse challenges
  • Historical difficulties managing tenancies independently

Your key responsibilities:

  • Ensure the health and safety of the building
  • Monitor access to/from the scheme
  • Act as the primary point of contact for residents (advice, support, or compassionate listening)

This rewarding role will require a proactive, empathetic approach with a focus on vulnerable individuals.

Day-to-Day Duties

  • Engage and interact with residents while delivering support and engagement
  • Collaborate with Project Workers to facilitate:
    • Tenancy management workshops
    • Health and wellbeing sessions
  • Conduct welfare checks to ensure resident safety and wellbeing
  • Maintain physical security of the building:
    • Regularly inspect and report on health & safety compliance
    • Monitor and record who enters/exits the premises
  • Manage challenging behaviours with empathy
  • Identify and address additional support needs
  • Help residents maintain their rooms and communal areas

Who We Are Looking For

Core skills and attributes:

  • Experience in building rapport with vulnerable or disadvantaged individuals
  • Strong teamwork and ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent time management and prioritisation skills
  • Ability to handle emergency situations calmly
  • Basic IT literacy (e.g., using scheduling/communication tools)
  • Clear communication and active listening
  • Flexibility, resilience, and commitment to compromise and progressive support
