The role
We have a market leading reputation for producing bespoke solutions for niche customer groups managed by our broker partners. Within the wider Schemes team, we deliver Schemes (Delegated Authorities and MGA) solutions across the UK retail business.
You’ll work across the existing portfolio of Schemes (and Delegated Authorities) business as well as analysing the impact of new Schemes opportunities. You’ll work with the wider Schemes Team across underwriting, operations and sales delivering analytics and business insights to influence business decisions and drive the performance objectives of the Schemes business in support of our Active Performance and Portfolio Management ambitions. You will ensure alignment with the wider Hiscox UK business including, Pricing and Portfolio Management, the Insurance Analytics team and Underwriting & Distribution management, ensuring alignment with wider Hiscox UK strategy.
You will report directly to the Schemes and MGA –Portfolio Analyst Team Lead and you will have responsibility for influencing the design and delivering our performance and portfolio management strategy in support of driving improvement and profitable growth to schemes. You will play an integral part in realising our ambitions of growing the portfolio in line with our strategic plans.

What you’ll be doing:
- Providing an independent review and recommendation for underwriting on large existing Schemes and MGA’s
- Deploying analytical skills to assess new schemes opportunities, working in close collaboration with our Delivery Underwriters in support of our profitable growth ambitions and our service commitments
- Complete all other relevant ad hoc and deep dive data analysis including underwriting referral analysis and make recommendations for improvements
- In conjunction with the underwriting and Schemes Leadership team, and working closely with the analytics function, you will be designing and developing the data standards relevant for your sector
- You will be using data visualisation tools to design and build a reporting suite to enable the Schemes Sector to actively monitor the performance and portfolio trends and produce on an ongoing basis our monthly and quarterly suite of reporting
- You will be using your analytical skills to spot trends in the Schemes performance and provide insight and recommendations for changes to strategy in support of delivering on our strategic goals and profitable growth targets
- Support innovation and continuous improvement and look for opportunities to implement data, reporting and process improvements across Schemes Sector
- Conduct data analysis to spot trends and recommend the necessary corrective action and opportunities for profitable growth within the existing portfolios in your sector
- Applying knowledge of the regulatory environment to all portfolio decisions and ensuring recommendations result in our customers being treated fairly and consistently in line with Hiscox values
- You will work closely with a wide range of interested stakeholders to deliver a consistent and accurate suite of reports across a wide range of business performance metrics including deal conversion and decline data, underwriting loss and combined ratio’s, portfolio mix, claims frequency, large loss analysis etc.

Our must-haves:
- Experience in a similar analytical role, using data and insights to identify trends, evaluate performance and make recommendations that drive business growth and improvement
- Experience within insurance, ideally within Schemes, MGA, Pricing, Portfolio Management or an analytical function supporting underwriting decisions
- Experience using data analysis tools such as Python, R or SQL and data visualisation tools including Power BI
- Proficient in applying analytical techniques to extract meaningful trends and make recommendations
- Ability to make confident decisions in difficult and complex situations
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to operate in a collaborative environment
- Excellent numerical, analytical and data manipulation skills
- Results driven, ability to make decisions and operate on own initiative
- Ability to execute and influence at all levels both internally and externally
- Open to new ideas, innovation and educated risk taking
- Excellent communication skills with ability to articulate the complex to technical and non-technical audiences
