School Administrator Role - Attendance Assistant

Role: Attendance Assistant

Academy: Outwood Academy Acklam

Start Date: 01/09/2026

Salary: £21,956 – £22,304 Working Pattern: 37 Hours Per Week, Monday to Friday, Term Time only plus 5 days

Responsibilities

Your role will support the Education Welfare Officer (EWO) in maintaining robust attendance records while upholding the academy’s student welfare initiatives:

  • Registration & Data Management:
    • Oversee daily attendance registration, ensuring accuracy and completeness for Management Information Systems (MIS).
    • Monitor and record absences/lateness, liaising with parents/carers to clarify and resolve unauthorised absences.
    • Process requests for student leave of absence in adherence to academy policies.

  • Operational & Clerical Support:

    • Compile and distribute attendance-related data for Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Learning Managers to analyse and address persistent absence trends.
    • Conduct late gate duty to track and manage pupil punctuality and adherence to attendance policies.
    • Train all staff on correct attendance procedures and policies.
  • Pastoral Safeguarding:

    • Maintain awareness of child safeguarding issues aligned with statutory guidance (Keeping Children Safe in Education).
    • Collaborate with the EWO and Learning Manager to address safeguarding concerns arising from attendance patterns.

Requirements

A highly organised, communicative, and compassionate professional is required. Essential qualities include:

  • Effective written/verbal communication with diverse audiences (parents, staff, students).
  • Ability to confidentially manage sensitive data and adhere to GDPR/data protection policies.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and standard ICT packages for day-to-day administrative tasks.
  • Strong time-management and organisational skills to meet deadlines.
  • Empathetic attitude in liaising with parents (especially for safeguarding concerns).
  • Desirable: Prior experience within a school or childcare setting.

Qualifications are not mandatory, but commitment to continued development and training is expected.
