Aston on Trent Primary School is seeking to appoint a highly organised, professional, and reliable School Business Assistant (Clerk to Governors) to support the effective operation of our Governing Board.

This is a key role within the school, providing administrative, organisational, and procedural support to governors and helping to ensure that governance responsibilities are carried out effectively and in line with statutory requirements.

The Role

The successful candidate will:

  • Organise and prepare agendas for governing board and committee meetings.
  • Attend meetings, take accurate minutes, and distribute records in a timely manner.
  • Provide procedural and governance advice to governors and school leaders.
  • Maintain governance records and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory governance requirements.
  • Support the recruitment, induction, and training of governors where required.
  • Act as the main point of contact for governance matters.

The ideal candidate will possess excellent administrative and communication skills, have strong attention to detail, and be able to work independently while maintaining confidentiality at all times.

Hours of Work

3 hours per week, worked flexibly to meet the needs of the Governing Board. Attendance at scheduled governor meetings, which are usually held outside normal school hours, will be required.
