St James’s CE Primary School
Required from September 2026 (up for negotiation and subject to satisfactory clearances)
We are seeking an exceptional School Business Manager to join our vibrant, ambitious two-form entry Church of England primary school in the heart of the local community. This is a strategic leadership role and an exciting opportunity to become a key member of our Leadership Team.
At St James's, our vision is simple:
"Let your light shine – be the best we can be."
We believe schools flourish when people flourish.
Our aim is to create the conditions where children, staff and families can all be the very best they can be. We know that outstanding teaching relies on outstanding systems, strong leadership and a culture where people are supported to do their best work.
This is far more than a business management role.
As a key member of our Leadership Team, you will help shape the strategic direction of our school, leading finance, human resources, compliance, governance, premises and operational services. Your leadership will enable others to focus on what matters most—helping every child flourish.
We're looking for someone who sees beyond spreadsheets and policies; someone who understands that excellent business leadership creates the conditions in which great education happens.
Are You:
- An experienced leader who enjoys making a genuine difference?
- Someone who can think strategically whilst remaining confident in the detail?
- Passionate about creating systems that reduce workload and help people thrive?
- Calm under pressure and able to make sound decisions?
- Someone who enjoys solving problems and leading improvement?
- Committed to doing the right thing, even when it isn't the easiest thing?
- A leader who builds trust, values relationships and brings people with them?
- Curious, reflective and always looking for better ways of working?
- Ready to become an integral part of a leadership team that enjoys working hard, supporting one another and celebrating success together?

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
