Role Description

The School Business Manager is a full-time, on-site role based at Brownlow Fold Primary School in Bolton. This role oversees the school’s financial management, including budgeting, financial planning, monitoring expenditure, and preparing reports for leadership and governors. The School Business Manager manages administrative and support functions such as HR processes, payroll coordination, facilities management, and procurement of goods and services.

  • Maintaining accurate records
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and policies
  • Supporting safeguarding procedures from an operational perspective
  • Liaising with external suppliers and service providers

The role also involves:

  • Contributing to strategic planning
  • Improving operational efficiency
  • Supporting the headteacher and senior leadership team in delivering the school’s educational priorities

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in financial administration and budget management within an educational or similar setting.
  • Strong skills in office administration, record keeping, and coordinating HR-related processes.
  • Proficiency with standard office software, school management systems, and basic data analysis tools.
  • Knowledge of relevant education sector regulations, safeguarding requirements, and health and safety procedures.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across staff teams.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities, including handling multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Experience or confidence in facilities management, procurement, and contract negotiation is highly beneficial.
  • Relevant qualification in business administration, finance, school business management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
