Tutor/Assessor - Job Description
Role purpose
To deliver high-quality teaching, coaching and curriculum that enables apprentices to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours (KSBs) required to become effective School Business Professionals within schools, academies and multi-academy trusts.
Key responsibilities
- To deliver structured teaching aligned to School Business Professional KSBs:
- School finance, budgeting and financial controls
- Procurement, contract and supplier management
- HR processes, recruitment and workforce planning
- Estates, facilities, premises and health & safety management
- Governance, compliance and education legislation
- Strategic business planning and organisational improvement
- To facilitate development of:
- Leadership and decision-making
- Commercial awareness within education
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication with senior leaders, governors and external partners
- To support apprentices to:
- Build portfolios of evidence using workplace projects
- Apply learning within educational settings
- Prepare for End-Point Assessment (EPA)
- To embed:
- Equality, diversity and inclusion
- Safeguarding responsibilities
- Professional ethics and confidentiality
- Sustainability and value for money
- Continuous professional development
Essential occupational competence
Tutors must demonstrate current, relevant sector experience, typically in:
- School Business Management
- Academy or Multi-Academy Trust leadership
- Education finance
- School operations management
- Educational administration and governance
Experience of:
- Managing school budgets and financial planning
- Leading procurement and contract management
- Supporting HR processes and workforce management
- Managing estates, premises and compliance
- Working alongside Headteachers, Governors and Trust Boards
Knowledge of:
- School funding and financial regulations
- Education legislation and statutory compliance
- Health & Safety requirements
- Procurement best practice
- HR legislation and employment processes
- Governance frameworks
Understanding of:
- School improvement priorities
- Educational accountability
- Risk management
- Business continuity planning
- Leadership within educational settings
