Facilities Officer – Hob Moor Community Primary Academy

Location Hob Moor Community Primary Academy, Green Lane, York, YO24 4PS

Hours 30 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 12:30 PM – 6:30 PM

Hourly Pay £14.86 per hour, plus 25p extra if you hold a Pool Plant Operators qualification.


Role Overview

Reporting to the Facilities Manager/Facilities Team Manager, the Facilities Officer will be based on-site with overall responsibility for:

  • Maintenance, porterage, and cleaning services
  • Ensuring all services meet consistently high standards
  • Assisting the Facilities Management team to fulfil the needs of the school and business
  • Working flexibly to support team requirements

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Operations

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance following helpdesk requests
  • Conduct utility monitoring (e.g., heating, water, electrical systems)
  • Perform general maintenance and repairs to building fabric and equipment
  • Identify, report, and address defects and maintenance requirements

Porterage & Caretaking

  • Handle deliveries and emergency cleaning
  • Maintain site tidiness (litter picking, weeding, waste removal)
  • Set up and manage furniture and equipment
  • Supervise and induct subcontractors, ensuring compliance with risk assessments and method statements

Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain health, safety, and environmental standards (legal compliance)
  • Act as Building Fire Officer, managing fire systems and documentation
  • Ensure site security (key holder duties during opening/closing)
  • Oversee hydrotherapy pool operations (Hob Moor facility only) – normal tests and procedures

Requirements

Essential

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (proficient in word processing and spreadsheets)
  • Total commitment to maintaining the facility at world-class quality
  • Excellent communication skills, with ability to liaise with:
    • Tenant groups
    • Subcontractors
    • Head teacher or nominated deputy
  • Highly organised with ability to prioritise tasks under pressure
  • Demonstrates positive attitude toward continuous learning and career progression
  • Trade background or practical maintenance experience
  • Flexible to work shift patterns (including occasional out-of-hours tasks)
  • Solid understanding of current Health & Safety practices

Desirable

  • Experience in a school environment
  • First Aid at Work certification
  • Valid UK driving license
  • Qualification in IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent
  • Pool Plant Operators qualification
