Caretaker
Location: Sutherland House School, Braithwell
We’re seeking to recruit a Caretaker to join our team at Sutherland House School in Braithwell. In this role, you’ll be involved in the repair, servicing, and construction (where applicable) of fixtures, fittings, and equipment, alongside buildings and site maintenance and decoration.
About the Role
We are looking for a friendly, focused, and communicative individual with strong caretaking or site management experience, including a background in maintenance and repair work. Demonstrated proficiency in the following is essential:
- Basic health and safety standards specific to cleaning and caretaking
- Previous experience working as a cleaner/caretaker/site manager
- Educational settings experience (preferred but not strictly necessary)
Candidates should have hands-on experience with cleaning methods, equipment, and general site upkeep at a professional level.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Health, Safety & Repairs
- Operate and respond to alarm systems as needed.
- Perform health and safety checks, including:
- Legionella temperature control
- Fire alarm tests
- Fire call point testing
- Complete tasks from the maintenance log and submit new repair requests from staff.
Maintenance & Decoration
- Undertake redecorating and minor repairs (e.g., fixing, realigning doors, fitting locks).
- Carry out scheduled decoration programmes as assigned.
- Provide minor improvement work (e.g., erecting shelves, noticeboards).
Facility Maintenance
- Maintain and monitor lighting systems.
- Identify and record defects for repairs and maintenance tracking.
- Assess and manage energy consumption (meter readings included).

Cleaning & General Upkeep
- Remove graffiti and remove litter as part of standard duties.
- Organise waste collection.
Operational Support
- Coordinate deliveries to Sutherland House School.
- Liaise with contractors and update admin teams on deadlines.
- Apply emergency first aid when required.
