Where and when do we need you?

To support the exciting expansion of Fair Ways education provision, we are looking for a Caretaker to work as part of our fantastic team at our specialist Autism School (GLADE) located in Totton. This role requires an enthusiastic, reliable, well-motivated and practical person to attend to the security, safety, cleanliness, ground and general maintenance of the school site. You will provide excellent safety management, cleaning, repair and routine maintenance service at our school, overseeing the safe use of our site and liaise with staff and the wider Fair Ways maintenance team.

As a Caretaker at our school you will be involved exciting and rewarding things like:

  • Small Scale Maintenance and Repairs - Attending to small scale maintenance and improvement works undertaking minor or temporary repairs, decorating and improvements.
  • Cleaning and Upkeep - Undertaking appropriate daily cleaning of the school site using a range of appropriate products and equipment to ensure our school site remains clean, tidy and welcoming providing an environment is pleasant and well maintained.
  • Fleet Oversight - Having oversight of our fleet of unit cars, undertaking minor maintenance works (tyre, battery and bulb checks) and transporting cars to/from local garages for required maintenance or repairs.
  • Working with the Maintenance Team - Logging any significant or larger scale maintenance requests using Fair Ways internal scheduling system confirming works to be undertaken by the Fair Ways maintenance team.
  • Site Security - Responsibility for effective site security through the planning, implementation and monitoring of efficient systems ensuring the building is secured appropriately at the end of each day. To act as responsible key holder facilitating any maintenance requests required during the school holidays as directed by SLT.
  • Recording and Reporting - Logging and responding to any emergent maintenance and/or health and safety issues and respond to them accordingly alerting the Head teacher, nominated SLT staff and wider maintenance team if required.
  • Health and Safety Support - Supporting the Deputy Head with actioning and adhering to any Health and Safety requirements within the school, supporting weekly and monthly checks of lighting, fire alarms and Legionella etc.
  • Playing your PART - Supporting a compassionate, resilient and trauma informed community that embraces learning, so that we improve the lives and outcomes of every individual.

The salary shown is the FTE for this role. The successful candidate will be working a 25 hours per week, over 45 weeks of the year. All candidates must have a full driving license and have access to the use of a car. Successful candidates will be required to provide an enhanced Disclosure (DBS). This disclosure cost will be met by Fair Ways. Fair Ways are unable to provide VISA sponsorship for this role and all applicants will need to be able to provide evidence of right to work in the UK.

You and your specialisms

Required

Supporting roles within our frontline services help achieve our mission of making a difference through passionate care, support, and education. To support this, you will be required to have, or be working towards a minimum of the following qualification or skill levels:

  • Level 2 or equivalent qualification for use of chemicals and cleaning equipment this must be passed on day 1 in post (if not already obtained)
  • A working knowledge & understanding of Health & Safety considerations and the legislation surrounding them.
  • Practical skills necessary to undertake general building maintenance, minor repairs, porterage duties
  • Ability to maintain records, information and data as appropriate
