Data Protection Education Ltd (DPE) supports schools and multi-academy trusts (MATs) across the UK with specialist data protection, cyber resilience, and AI governance expertise.
DPE provides outsourced Data Protection Officer services underpinned by the DPE Information Governance Framework and the DPE Knowledge Bank, a platform tailored specifically for the education sector. The organisation blends solicitor-led governance knowledge with consultants who have worked inside schools, ensuring advice is both legally robust and practically workable. By standardising systems and resources, DPE helps trusts strengthen governance, reduce administrative burden, improve audit readiness, and lower risk across 500+ schools. DPE is designed for education organisations seeking a structured, expert-led approach that simplifies operational workload while enhancing compliance and control.
Role Description
The School Data Protection Redaction Specialist is a full-time, remote role focused on supporting UK schools and MATs with safe handling and redaction of sensitive information. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

- Reviewing school documents and records
- Identifying personal and confidential data
- Applying consistent redaction standards in line with data protection and UK GDPR requirements
As part of the core-DPO team, you will work closely with DPE consultants and client schools to:
- Process Subject Access Requests and other information requests
- Ensure deadlines are met and redactions are accurate and defensible
- Use DPE’s platforms and tools
- Follow established workflows
- Maintain clear documentation of decisions
- Escalate complex cases to senior colleagues when needed
The specialist will also contribute to continuous improvement of redaction processes, templates, and guidance materials to support scalable, high-quality service delivery.
Qualifications/Skills and Experience
- Strong experience in document review and redaction, including identifying personal data, special category data, and sensitive information within education records.
- Practical understanding of UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, and information governance principles as applied in schools or public sector environments.
- High attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency in written work, with the ability to follow structured frameworks and standard operating procedures.
- Confident using digital tools and platforms for secure document handling, redaction, task management, and remote collaboration.
- Effective communication skills, including clear written explanations of redaction decisions and professional interaction with internal teams and school stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage workloads, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a remote, full-time role with minimal supervision.
- Experience working in or with schools, MATs, local authorities, or similar education settings is highly beneficial.
- Relevant training or certification in data protection, information governance, or legal/compliance disciplines is an advantage.
- Right to work in the UK and availability to work standard UK business hours.

Job Details
- Location: Home-based (all equipment will be provided)
- Reports to: Legal Director
- Salary: £26-28,000 per year
- Holiday: 30 days holiday per year
- Flexible working: Available
