Are you interested in improving children’s education in Barnsley?
Could you become a School Governor?
This role is more critical than ever
If you're interested in improving children's education, are over 18 years of age and have the time, you could become a school governor.
Governors are people who, in the opinion of the governing body, have the skills required to contribute to the effective governance and success of the school.
School Governors work with the Headteacher to set the future direction for the school and decide how the school spends its budget. They are responsible for making sure the school provides good quality education and for raising pupils’ attainment; provide support and advice to the Headteacher and challenge the Headteacher to ensure that decisions taken are in the best interest of the school.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
