About the Role
School Meals Workers play a vital role in delivering delicious, nutritious meals to children across Ireland. You’ll be the friendly face children see each day – the front-line hero representing The Lunch Bag in schools.
All meals are prepared in our headquarters in Nenagh, Tipperary, and are then delivered to schools. Once there, your duties include:
- Heating meals in ovens as the final link in the lunch chain
- Distributing meals to classrooms
Key Responsibilities
Here’s a breakdown of your day-to-day tasks:
- Load pre-packaged school meals into ovens.
- Turn on ovens and heat meals to the specific temperature according to HACCP guidelines.
- Unload ovens and distribute lunches to classrooms.
- Ensure adequate stock levels of food and supplies.
- Follow and maintain work and cleaning schedules.
- Record temperature logs and cleaning records for compliance.
- Restock fruit bowls in each classroom.
- Distribute snacks to children.

Requirements
We’re looking for doers – sound, good-natured individuals who genuinely care about making a difference in children’s lives. Our values matter, and to keep improving the lives of children, we need people who share our mission.
- Strong work ethic: You take pride in doing things right.
- Empathy and patience: Working with children teaches you to stay calm, work quickly, and maintain attention to detail—even when tiny human under pressure!
- Physical ability: You need to be able to lift 14kg boxes. Some stairs are involved too—just part of the fun (and part of school life in Ireland)!
- Multitasking: Managing ovens, distribution, and making sure classrooms are all ready for lunch at once.
- Adaptability: Whether you’ve worked with kids or food before, we’ll train you—no prior experience is necessary!

- A caring attitude when working with kids.

Work Schedule
- Hours: Part-time (6 hours per day), Monday to Friday.
- Seasonal: You get up to 183 days off when schools are closed (summer holidays!)—ideal for anyone looking for a flexible, term-time job.
