School Standards Board Member (Volunteer Role) – GLF Trust Schools, Banbury
The GLF Trust schools in Banbury are seeking committed individuals from diverse backgrounds—local community members and other volunteers—to join our School Standards Boards (SSBs). We value perspectives from outside the education sector, fresh ideas, and forward-thinking contributions aimed at enhancing opportunities for our children and families.
About the Opportunity
We are recruiting volunteer School Standards Board (SSB) members for four Banbury primary schools:
- Cherry Fields Primary School
- Hardwick Primary School
- Longford Park Primary School
- William Morris Primary School
Role Overview
- Term: 4-year commitment, with the option to extend for a second term (additional 4 years).
- Responsibilities:
- Support and monitor the school’s development plan.
- Help maintain and elevate high standards at your assigned school.
- Act as the Trust Board’s key interface with parents, staff, and the community.
- Value to the Trust:
- Provide regular feedback on school performance and stakeholder engagement.
- Influence TRUST-wide strategy alongside expert insights.
- No prior education-sector experience is required—in fact, diverse perspectives are encouraged.

Time Commitment & Requirements
- Six formal meetings per year (each up to two hours).
- At least three school visits annually—essential to observe operations in action.
- Training is mandatory; GLF provides fully funded courses to prepare you for the role.
Key Responsibilities
You’ll need to:
- Think strategically and play a part in setting priorities for school improvement.
- Listen, reflect, and learn from a variety of viewpoints.
- Establish clear expectations for school leaders.
- Analyse data and statistics to assess school progress.
- Challenge leaders constructively—in a way that’s productive but firm.

The Commitment
Timeline & Expectations:
- Meetings occur termly (six per academic year).
- Annual work plan guides SSB priorities.
- Training sessions—mandatory to attend.
- School visits—typically during school hours.
Travel expenses can be claimed, though this remains a voluntary role.
