Science Academic Mentor - What the Role Involves

  • Delivering small-group and 1:1 Science catch-up sessions across KS3 and KS4
  • Helping pupils consolidate core scientific concepts ahead of assessments and GCSE examinations
  • Working alongside class teachers to identify pupils who would benefit most from additional support
  • Recording session outcomes and communicating progress clearly to teaching staff
  • Encouraging pupils to build confidence and resilience when tackling challenging Science topics

Science Academic Mentor - What the School is Looking For

The ideal Science Academic Mentor will hold a 2:1 or 1st Class degree from a top 30 UK university in a Science or STEM-related subject. Previous experience working with young people, whether through tutoring, volunteering, or placements, is highly valued. The school is looking for a friendly, organised, and enthusiastic Science Academic Mentor who communicates well and is genuinely keen to support pupils in building their scientific confidence.

Science Academic Mentor - Salary and Contract Info

  • £450 to £530 per week, pro rata to term time only
  • Full-time, long-term contract from September 2026 to July 2027
  • Term-time only
  • Potential for future teacher training or extended contracts following a successful placement
