Science (Biology) Technician – Job Ref: XS4.5a

Grade 5 SCP 5-6 | £13.26 to £13.47 per hour (pending Pay Award)

37 hours per week | Term-time, plus 5 Staff Training Days (39 weeks total)

Required to start: September 2026


About the Role

We are seeking a Science Laboratory Technician with a strong focus on Biology to provide specialist technical support to teaching staff within our Science Laboratories. A primary requirement is efficient, practical experience in Science environments, with adaptability to other science subjects anticipated. The role will ensure the safe handling of equipment, chemicals, and adherence to health & safety protocols.


Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Ensure safe and proper use of all specialist laboratory equipment and chemicals.
  • Provide hands-on practical science assistance in a dynamic educational environment.
  • Actively seek to learn new skills to support teaching delivering high-quality practical learning opportunities.
  • Maintain awareness and compliance with health & safety regulations.
  • Collaborate effectively with teaching staff and colleagues, demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills.

Requirements

Essential qualifications and experience:

  • A Vocational or academic qualification in Science at NVQ Level 3 or above (or equivalent).
  • Specialist knowledge in Biology, with a foundation applicable to secondary school Curriculumynamic Science support.
  • Proven experience of practical hands-on work in a scientific laboratory or teaching environment.
