Science ECT Ponders End, Enfield September 2026
A supportive, forward-thinking secondary school with sixth form in Ponders End is seeking a motivated and scientifically strong Science ECT to join their established Science faculty from September 2026. This is a permanent Science ECT role within a school rated Good by Ofsted, offering an excellent platform for an early career practitioner to develop their practice in a school that takes the development of its teachers as seriously as the education of its pupils.
About the School
This Enfield secondary school and sixth form delivers a rigorous, well-sequenced Science curriculum across KS3, KS4, and KS5, with improving GCSE outcomes and a sixth form cohort that feeds pupils into Science and Medicine pathways at university. Teaching across the department is collaborative and evidence-informed, with every Science ECT given the time, resource, and mentoring needed to grow into a confident, authoritative classroom practitioner. Behaviour is managed through clear, consistent whole-school expectations and enrichment including STEM clubs, university taster days, and science olympiad preparation reflects the department's broader ambition for its pupils.
What the School Offers
- A fully structured ECT induction with a dedicated Science mentor and formally protected weekly development time
- A carefully managed, reduced first-year timetable that builds progressively as confidence grows
- Early opportunities to contribute to sixth form Science teaching as induction progresses
- A Science team that plans collaboratively and shares resources openly - no Science ECT here navigates their first year alone
- A school with a genuine track record of retaining early career staff and supporting them into leadership over time

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
