Key Responsibilities
- Preparing equipment and material for KS3 and KS4 biology, chemistry and physics lessons, including stock and standard solutions, specimens and apparatus for demonstrations and practical work
- Delivering equipment and chemicals to laboratories in a safe manner and setting up demonstration practicals
- Checking, returning, cleaning and sterilisation of equipment and apparatus after lessons
- Assisting pupils, teaching staff and student teachers with practicals and demonstrations, including advising on safe use of chemicals
- Maintenance of a safe working environment, including cleaning laboratory sinks and surfaces
- Repair and maintenance of science equipment and reporting equipment for repair where required
- Construction and/or modification of science teaching aids and testing new experiments
- Operating systems for stocking, storing, transporting and distributing department resources
- Maintaining stock levels, stock control, ordering procedures, preparing requisitions and checking deliveries
- Safe treatment and disposal of biological, chemical and hazardous waste
- Maintaining preparation rooms, monitoring store and chemical temperatures and liaising with the site team
- Liaising with the Head of Science regarding curriculum planning and support for teaching staff
- Complying with Health & Safety requirements, including COSHH, CLEAPPS and risk management procedures
