About the Role

As part of the Thermo Fisher Scientific team, you’ll work on meaningful projects with a global impact. Your daily contributions will enable customers to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer by addressing critical challenges such as environmental protection, food safety, and medical advancements like cancer research.

Join our collaborative Antibody Development team and contribute to the advancement of protein and antibody engineering technologies. In this role as a Scientist II in Protein Biology, you’ll design, develop, and validate high-quality antibodies using cutting-edge methodologies.

This position offers opportunities to:

  • Plan and execute experiments independently
  • Drive product development from concept to validation
  • Collaborate across teams to optimize workflows and enhance product quality
  • Support junior scientists, present findings, and innovate in a supportive, excellence-focused environment

Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent scientific experiments across protein characterization, proteomics, and antibody development
  • Utilize advanced techniques such as LC-MS/MS, mass spectrometry, HPLC, and protein purification to refine workflows
  • Develop new assays, methods, and technologies in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
  • Analyze complex datasets using bioinformatics tools and interpret results with statistical rigor
  • Document findings, prepare technical reports, and present research findings to stakeholders
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to project leadership where applicable

Requirements

Education

  • Preferred:

    • Master’s (MSc) or PhD in Proteomics, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Structural Biology, Immunology, Protein Science, or a related life sciences discipline
    • Candidates with an MSc or PhD may be considered without prior industry experience
  • Alternative (with experience):

    • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field
    • 2+ years of hands-on experience in:
      • Proteomics, mass spectrometry
      • Protein characterization
      • Related analytical sciences (e.g., protein purification, chromatography)

Technical Expertise

✔ LC-MS/MS-Based Proteomics – Expertise in:

  • Large-scale protein identification, quantification, and post-translational modification analysis
  • Handling complex biological matrices

✔ Mass Spectrometry Platforms – Hands-on experience with:

  • High-resolution systems (e.g., Waters LCMS/MS, Q-TOF, Triple Quadrupole)
  • Coupling with nanoLC, UHPLC, or HPLC systems
  • Troubleshooting and optimization

✔ Proteomics Workflows – including:

  • Sample preparation (extraction, digestion)
  • Peptide cleanup and fractionation
  • Quantitative strategies (label-free, TMT, SILAC, DIA, PRM/SRM)

✔ Protein Purification & Characterization – Familiarity with:

  • Affinity chromatography, ion exchange chromatography, SEC, HPLC, FPLC
  • SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, ELISA, capillary electrophoresis
  • Protein-protein interaction assays

✔ Bioinformatic & Data Analysis – Proficiency in:

  • Industry-standard software (Proteome Discoverer, MaxQuant, Skyline, DIA-NN, Spectronaut, Scaffold, etc.)
  • Protein databases, bioinformatics tools, and statistical analysis
  • Data visualization and reporting (GraphPad Prism, Microsoft Office Suite)

✔ Molecular & Protein Sciences (Additional Preference)

  • Antibody discovery, engineering, or display technologies
  • Structural biology tools (PyMOL, Schrödinger, Chimera, etc.)
  • Proteins conjugation biotin, antibody modification techniques

Professional Skills

  • Exceptional documentation and technical writing skills
  • Strong multidisciplinary communication abilities
  • Highly organized, ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Independence with collaborative leadership – comfortable working across teams
  • Mentoring experience (junior scientists, technicians, or students) is a plus
  • Familiarity with regulated labs (GLP, GMP, ISO quality systems) is preferred
  • Project leadership, method development, or technology transfer experience considered valuable
