Location: Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, UK

About the Role

Pharmaron is a global CRO offering fully integrated drug discovery and manufacturing services. We currently seek a Scientist or Senior Scientist to join our Discovery Bioanalysis and Biotransformation team in Hoddesdon, UK.

This opportunity provides hands-on experience and cross-disciplinary exposure, ideal for professionals enjoying problem-solving, collaborative projects, and fast-paced scientific advancements. Coverage exists across modestly experienced candidates as well as those with advanced technical expertise and leadership potential.


Responsibilities

Core Duties (Scientist & Senior Scientist)

  • Perform laboratory-based bioanalysis using LC-MS/MS to support in vitro and in vivo studies.
  • Prepare, analyse samples, and ensure rapid turnaround of high-quality data.
  • Develop, optimise, and troubleshoot LC-MS/MS methods for analysis of:
    • Small molecules
    • Peptides
    • Discovery-stage compounds
  • Support high-throughput analytical workflows, including sample preparation, data generation, review, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with team members in discovery groups to support in vitro and in vivo workflows.
  • Contribute to pharmacokinetic (PK) analysis and interpretations where needed.
  • Support metabolite identification and structural elucidation using advanced MS platforms.

Senior Scientist-Specific Responsibilities

  • Provide technical independence and mentorship in troubleshooting complex analytical challenges.
  • Lead or coordinate research programmes with minimal supervision.
  • Foster a collaborative environment and support junior scientists.

Scientist-Specific Responsibility

  • Grow technical capability through hands-on training, project collaboration, and expert team guidance.

Requirements

Essential Requirements (All Levels)

  • Degree (BSc or MSc) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Biological Sciences, or a related field.
  • Interest in bioanalysis, DMPK & ADME.
  • Some prior LC-MS-related exposure via:
    • Industry placement
    • Postgraduate studies
    • Academic projects
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality data.
  • Effective written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proactiveness, curiosity, and willingness to expand technical skillset.
  • Adaptability to fast-paced laboratory environments.

Advanced Criteria (Senior Scientist Only)

  • At least 3 years of industry experience in LC-MS/MS bioanalysis:
    • Quantitative/qualitative small-molecule analysis
  • Hands-on expertise in LC-MS method development, optimisation, troubleshooting, routine sample analysis.
  • Experience in high-throughput лабораториум or discovery-oriented settings.
    • Python coding skills (advantageous).
  • Proficiency in sample extraction and automation platforms (e.g., Tecan D300, Agilent Bravo).
  • Independence in managing projects or studies.
  • Knowledge of:
    • PK analysis
    • In vitro systems
    • DMPK or ADME workflows
  • Ability to communicate scientific updates and project statuses.
  • Experience mentoring junior scientists (preferred).

  • Sciex MS instrumentation and Analyst/Sciex OS software proficiency.
  • Experience with:
    • Discovery MET-ID using QTOF instrumentation.
    • WinNonLin for PK analysis.
  • Python coding for scientific applications.
