Key Requirements
- Registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC)
- Valid SCPHN (Health Visiting) registration
- Compliance with NMC standards and guidance.

Main Duties
Core Responsibilities
- Deliver the Universal Healthy Child Wales Programme to families raising children under 5 years, including:
- Public health interventions:
- Infant feeding support
- Safer sleeping guidance
- Perinatal mental health awareness
- Immunisation promotion
- Safeguarding awareness (including All Wales Child Protection Procedures)
- Screening programmes (e.g., Newborn Blood Spot)
- Introduce safeguarding procedures (All Wales Child Protection Procedures) and collaborate with families to develop child protection plans.
- Public health interventions:
- Apply the Family Resilience Assessment Tool (FRAIT) within the programme.
- Provide targeted interventions for families with low resilience to offer intensive support.
- Participate in statutory safeguarding functions (e.g., court cases, MARAC/MAPPA processes).
System and Innovation Focus
- Implement risk management processes (e.g., lone working assessments).
- Use the All Wales Health Visiting Acuity tool to ensure safe staffing levels.
- Promote integrated working and contribute to local partnership plans.
- Develop health profiles of the population to feed into service planning.
Leadership and Policy Development
- Share responsibility for Health Visiting Team meetings or forums.
- Contribute to drafting local policies and guidelines.

Skills and Qualifications
Essential Criteria
- Current NMC registration.
- SCPHN (Health Visitor) Post Graduate Diploma/Certificate.
- Nurse Prescribing qualification.
Desirable Criteria
- Mentorship experience.
- SCPHN Degree level.
- Clinical supervision expertise.
Experience
Essential
- In-depth knowledge of the public health agenda & priorities.
- Familiarity with clinical governance.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding protocols.
- Excellent interpersonal & communication skills.
- Ability to mentor effectively.
- Flexibility to manage unpredictable workloads or routines.
- Views organisational change as an opportunity.
Desirable
- Level 3 Safeguarding qualification.
- Experience in partnership working.
- Skills in facilitating group engagement.
- Proven change management aptitude.
