Screening Support Sonographer

Senior Ultrasound Practitioner – Obstetric & Vascular Sonographer (Band 7/Band 8a) – University Hospitals Dorset (UHD) NHS FT

About the Role

We’re a friendly, supportive team performing and reporting ultrasound examinations while ensuring the highest standard of patient care.

Key Benefits:

  • Recruitment and Retention Premiumium: All sonographers at Band 7 and Band 8a across radiology receive an annual payment of £5,000 (pro rata)
  • Generous relocation package: Worth up to £13,000 for eligible candidates

Our obstetric service is based at Royal Bournemouth Hospital, operating in our state-of-the-art maternity unit and providing obstetric scanning alongside maternity colleagues.

The general ultrasound service spans multiple locations, including Poole, Royal Bournemouth, Christchurch hospitals, and two community diagnostic centres in Poole and Southbourne. We conduct a range of scans, such as:

  • General medical ultrasound
  • Obstetrics & gynaecology
  • Vascular
  • Paediatrics (including neonatal hips and heads)
  • Musculoskeletal
  • We also support the Early Pregnancy Clinic and operate a 7-day ultrasound service

Our department uses a mix of ultrasound systems, including Philips, GE, Canon, and Samsung.


Responsibilities

Your role will involve:

  • Working as part of the radiology team to deliver an efficient, high-quality diagnostic imaging service
  • Producing high-quality diagnostic images while optimising patient care
  • Acting as a specialist ultrasound practitioner, undertaking autonomous reporting across a range of ultrasound examinations
  • Overseeing and supporting the Down’s syndrome screening quality assurance service (DQASS), including:
    • Ensuring the USS participates actively in the DQASS process
    • Submitting a minimum of 25 paired measurements on a 6-monthly basis
  • Collaborating with the US Clinical Lead and management team to develop and deliver an ongoing education and training programme for ultrasound practitioners
  • Attending the UHD Ante-Natal and Newborn Screening Programme Board Governance meetings as required

Key Requirements

  • Current HCPC registration (mandatory)
