Scrub Nurse - Part Time

Scrub Nurse – Part-Time (27.5 hrs/week) | Optegra Eye Healthcare

Optegra has an exciting part-time opportunity for an experienced Scrub Nurse to join their supportive team at their prestigious private eye hospital in Hounslow. The Role

The Scrub Nurse will provide clinical and technical support in the ophthalmic surgical pathway, delivering excellent care to patients throughout their peri-operative and post-operative journey. Key duties include:

  • Assisting in the operating theatre, ensuring smooth execution of procedures.
  • Providing skilled surgical support, including instrument handling and(glove/sterile equipment management).
  • Assisting with minor operations and refractive surgeries.
  • Maintaining sterility and decontamination protocols for surgical instruments.
  • Ensuring robust documentation for patient traceability and regulatory compliance.

Core Responsibilities

  • Carry out registered nursing duties, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care (under Practitioner oversight).
  • Safeguard patient dignity and privacy while adhering to Trust/departmental policies.
  • Anticipate and supply surgical tools/equipment efficiently.
  • Dispose of and decontaminate surgical instruments safely, ensuring due records are maintained.
  • Complete all mandatory clinical documentation accurately and comprehensively.
  • Report any ethical or compliance concerns to senior staff.

Requirements

  • Registered General Nurse (operative or managing) or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP).
  • Current NMC/ODP registration (unrestricted).
  • Specialised qualification in ophthalmology or peri-operative care.
  • At least one year of experience in ophthalmic surgical theatres.
  • Proficient IT skills (e.g., Microsoft Office).
  • Familiarity with NMC Ethical Guidelines & Professional Code of Conduct.
  • Awareness of CQC standards and quality systems.
