Second Chefs Required – The Spinney (Royal Borough of Manchester, M46 9NT)
Ready to unleash your culinary creativity? Join The Spinney as a Second Chef and become an integral part of a dynamic kitchen team while crafting delicious meals for service users, staff, and visitors—37.5 hours per week. With unique events and seasonal opportunities, you’ll infuse your unique talents into every dish.
About the Role
As a Second Chef, you’ll support the Head Chef in day-to-day kitchen operations while elevating your skills by mentoring colleagues. This role offers:

- Home by dinner daily and two rest days per week
Key Responsibilities
Working alongside the Head Chef, your role will include:

Operational Support
- Overseeing daily kitchen operations under Head Chef supervision
- Maintaining food hygiene standards, storage procedures, and stock rotation

Meal Preparation & Service
- Preparing, planning, and cooking high-quality meals while accommodating dietary requirements within the unit
- Serving meals professionally and courteously to service users, staff, and visitors

Event Catering
- Producing food for conferences, banquets, and special occasions
- Supporting cost control through effective menu costing

Food Safety & Administration
- Adhering to Safer Food, Better Business and Food Hygiene Regulations
- Managing HACCP compliance, including temperatures logs, cleaning schedules, and daily inspections
- Complying with day-to-day kitchen safety procedures

Requirements
To thrive in this role, you must possess:

Essential Qualifications & Experience
- 18 years or older
- GCSE level English (or equivalent)
- City & Guilds Level 2 Food Preparation & Cooking Qualifications (706/1 and 706/2) or equivalent
- Basic Food Hygiene Certification (mandatory)
- Intermediate Food Hygiene Certification is desirable
- Previous experience in a chef or catering role
- Experience delivering mass-service meals

Essential Competencies
- Strong menu planning, costing, ordering, stock control, and budgeting experience
- Ability to adapt to seasonal festive and event-driven catering needs
- Commitment to high hygiene and professional service standards
About Your Workplace
Location: The Spinney – Everest Road, Atherton, Manchester M46 9NT
The Spinney provides specialist care settings for male patients with personality disorder and/or mental illness, operating within a -secure care framework spanning medium, low secure, PICU (Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit), and rehabilitation wards.
Find yourself immersed in a multidisciplinary care setting honoured for its staff attainment in trauma and behavioural management during sustained care. Support comes from mental health professionals, occupational therapists, and nursing teams.
