The Role
You’ll work as the Bank Second Chef at Barchester, delivering hotel and restaurant standards without split shifts or long weeks. Your responsibilities include:
- Assisting the Head Chef in tailoring and developing nutritious, seasonal menus for residents’
- Managing the kitchen independently during the Head Chef’s absence
- Enhancing the resident experience with warm, personable hospitality
- Working with fresh seasonal produce to create high-quality dishes
- Ensuring quality and standards meet Barchester’s exacting benchmark
- Leading and motivating the kitchen team

Requirements
Applicants must meet the following non-negotiables:
- Certified qualification: City & Guilds/NVQ/SVQ or equivalent in culinary arts
- Proven experience leading and inspiring kitchen teams
- Strong nutritional understanding to support resident needs
- Expertise in working with fresh seasonal food
- Proven ability to create a welcoming, efficient, and fun team environment
- Familiarity with HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) procedures
Key Responsibilities
- Menu development in collaboration with the Head Chef
- Team leadership and day-to-day kitchen management
- Raw material to finished product – ensuring wholesome, high-quality dishes
- Stock control & budget management
- Regular audits to maintain compliance and quality
- Creating a positive environment rooted in hospitality excellence
