Second Chef (Package Description)

The Role

The Second Chef role with Agincare is more than just cooking. You’ll work alongside a passionate team to deliver an exceptional quality of life for those in our care.

What We Need

✅ Minimum 12 months of right-to-work documentation ✅ Background in kitchen environments

  • Experience managing a professional kitchen is essential
  • Knowledge of the IDDSI framework (or managing complex dietary requirements) is desirable ✅ Full-time role (40 hours per week), including shifts on alternative weekends
  • Shifts timings (4 times per week): 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM

A Day in the Life of a Cook

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Menu Planning

    • Collaborate with the home manager to develop menus based on resident feedback, tastes, and dietary needs.
    • Organise themed days and events to showcase creativity and skill.
  • Understanding & Managing Dietary Needs

    • Ensure residents receive personalised nutrition, including:
      • Modified food textures (for swallowing difficulties)
      • Allergies
      • Specialist dietary requirements
  • Kitchen Management

    • Oversee day-to-day kitchen operations.
    • Responsible for stock management and maintaining hygiene standards.

About You

You don’t need a care-specific background—what matters is:

✔ Experience in a catering context (previous chef, kitchen assistant, or similar) ✔ Prior knowledge of:

  • Food Safety
  • COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) ✔ Soft Skills:
  • Caring and empathetic approach
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic
  • Strong team player
