Description
You will support the Head Chef in the organisation and running of the University kitchens and counter service. You will be responsible for developing food provision across a variety of outlets, delivering and developing the event & hospitality menus.
About the Role
- To oversee the day-to-day organization, preparation, and cooking of all meals to a high standard in all catering outlets on campus and areas in the central Production Kitchen.
- Support the head chef with developing food trends on an ongoing basis, ensuring the catering offer at the university is modern, exciting, and innovative.
- Support the head chef with achieving food cost targets and achieving budget.
- Assist in the planning and delivery of events such as graduation, open days, weddings, summer schools, and conferences.
About You
- Cooking Qualification or equivalent experience
- Recent experience working in a commercial industrial or public catering role
- Passion for food and excellent service delivery
- Experience of staff training
- Basic IT skills

The salary range shows the potential maximum pay progression in addition to any annual inflationary increase to your pay. Please note that our default position is to appoint into the lower end of the range, unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Interview dates - 4th & 5th August
The University operates a No Smoking policy to promote a healthier work environment.
The contract is 5 out of 7 days so a day off may be given in the week in order to work a weekend shift. Due to operational requirements some flexibility of working hours will be required in order to meet business needs. The department can be open 7 days a week and post holders will be required to work on a 5 out of 7 rotating pattern. Covering early mornings, evenings, and weekends. Advanced notice will be provided.
Clean driving licence. Some driving to other units may be needed.
Reasonable notice will be given and the appropriate enhanced rate of pay in accordance with conditions of service will apply.
Annual leave to be approved by the Head Chef in accordance with the operational needs of the service. Peak business is September to December and several events in July. Annual leave will be limited throughout these periods.
This post is based primarily at Newton Park; the postholder may be required to work at our other campuses.
