Role Overview

We are looking for a Second Line / Infrastructure Support Engineer to join our growing team on either a part-time or full-time basis. This is a hybrid role based in Great Dunmow, Essex, with some flexibility to work from home. The role will also involve occasional travel to client sites across Essex, London and surrounding areas. This position is aimed at someone with strong hands-on experience supporting Windows Server environments, Microsoft cloud services, networks and business infrastructure. You will provide advanced technical support to our SME clients, take ownership of escalated issues and assist with the configuration, maintenance and improvement of client environments. This is not solely a desktop support role. We are particularly interested in candidates who are comfortable working with servers, switches, firewalls, virtualisation, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Group Policy and Microsoft Intune.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide second-line technical support across a varied SME client base.
• Diagnose and resolve escalated server, network, cloud, identity and endpoint issues.
• Administer, configure, and deploy Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, file services and permissions.
• Experience working with SAN, NAS and other shared storage technologies.
• A good understanding of disaster recovery planning, implementation, testing and ongoing maintenance.
• Create, maintain and troubleshoot Group Policy Objects.
• Manage Microsoft 365, Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Entra ID environments.
• Configure and support user identities, security groups, permissions, multi-factor authentication and Conditional Access policies.
• Configure and manage devices using Microsoft Intune and related endpoint management tools.
• Support physical and virtual server environments, including Hyper-V or VMware.
• Configure and troubleshoot managed switches, VLANs, wireless networks, routers, firewalls and VPN connections.
• Install and configure servers, network equipment, endpoints and other client infrastructure.
• Monitor systems using remote monitoring and management tools.
• Perform patching, firmware updates, system upgrades and configuration changes.
• Manage backup systems and assist with disaster recovery testing and incident response.
• Support infrastructure projects, including server replacements, network upgrades, office moves and cloud migrations.
• Investigate recurring technical issues and recommend long-term improvements.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation, network diagrams, asset information and client procedures.
• Communicate clearly with clients and take ownership of incidents through to resolution.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, third-party vendors and technology partners.
