Secondary English Teacher Subject Specialist Local Secondary Schools

Position

Inspire Through Language: Impact Without the Marking Pile

We are seeking Qualified English Teachers (QTS/ECTs) to provide specialist cover across a variety of secondary settings. As a core subject specialist, your expertise is vital. This role allows you to focus on the craft of teaching: leading debates on literature and sharpening writing skills: without the weight of endless essay marking or departmental data tracking.

Core Curriculum Mastery

  • Lead lessons across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, covering everything from Shakespeare and poetry to persuasive writing and spoken language.

Academic Flexibility

  • Experience a range of school cultures, from traditional grammar schools to innovative academies, keeping your teaching practice fresh and diverse.

Work:Life Balance

  • Reclaim your evenings: Deliver high-impact lessons during the day and leave the planning, marking, and parent evenings to the permanent staff.

Weekly Pay

  • Competitive daily rates of GBP140 - GBP233, paid every Friday via Randstad.

Your Role as an English Lead

As a Secondary English Teacher, you are responsible for fostering a love for reading and helping students master the tools of effective communication.

Expert Lesson Delivery

  • Facilitate engaging analysis of fiction and non-fiction, encouraging students to think critically about intent, context, and structural techniques.

GCSE Focus

  • Support Year 11 students with targeted prep for English Language and Literature papers, focusing on essay structure, quote integration, and timing.

Classroom Authority

  • Maintain a vibrant and respectful environment where students feel confident to share their interpretations and participate in class discussions.

Adaptive Support

  • Differentiate tasks on the fly to support students with EAL or SEND, ensuring the curriculum is accessible and challenging for all.

Essential Requirements

We are looking for articulate and passionate specialists who can command the attention of a classroom. You are an ideal fit if you:

  • Hold QTS: You have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognized teaching qualification (ECTs are highly encouraged).
  • Are an English Specialist: You have a degree in English or a closely related field, with a solid grasp of the KS3/KS4 National Curriculum.
  • Are a Strong Communicator: You can build rapport with teenagers quickly and use your passion for literature and language to spark their interest.
  • Are Committed: You hold an enhanced DBS on the update service (or are willing) and are 100% dedicated to Safeguarding.
